Photographer’s Note
This is a view of the rock formation known as "The old man of Storr", in the Trotternish peninsula of the Isle of Skye (Scotland), just north of Portree. It is a very scenic (and much photographed) place, which can be reached climbing a rather easy path. This is a quite unusual view, as it was taken from below, just out of the path. The sky was quite interesting, and the picture came out weird, but, I think, effective.
It is a scan of a printed picture, and this is why there is some noise in the photo. The other problem is the vignetting, evident at the focal length I used, but I think it actually adds something to the picture.
Unfortunately the view doesn't let you see the amazing place that hosts the "old man".
You can see here an amazing picture of the same spot.

I like very much the colour saturation and the way in which the clouds seem to be emerging from the rocks.

Hi patrick,
It lacks a little sharpness, but the colors and composition are very strong (and the sky ofcourse)
Thanks and regards, Gerrit

Hi Patrick, I like the angle you've taken this shot from and the contrast in colours between the earth and sky.

Hi Patrick
Well, just a rock, huh!! But you have turned it into a beautiful one, indeed. Lack some sharpness, but the composition is good. Especially the white clouds appearing from the rock and joining the blue sky.
Cheers and Merry Christmas.

Just rocks - but what great rocks they are! They really (er...) rock. Fabulous contrast and wonderfully set against those incredible clouds.

I really love the way the clouds seem to almost be rising from the rocks, like smoke or mist. The deep blue of the sky and the bright green of the hillside is a lovely contrast. Very nicely balanced and pleasant composition. Well done.

Your low POV works very well here, Patrick, with the rocks framed by an interesting cloudscape. Composition and exposure is excellent - just lacks a little sharpness. Thanks for the link to Adam Burton's photograph - his was one of the best landscape photographs I have seen on TE for a while. Cheers . . . David

Great composition, contrast and colours. It could have been sharper, but it is fine like this too. The only thing is, it is a little grainy i think. If it was a longer exposure I guess I would have been perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Patrick,
This is a very nice photo.I like the way that the clouds seems to be smoke coming out from behind the rocks.

Hi Patrick,
I can confirm that the place is really amazing - I was there twice and hope to get there at least once more :-) I like the diagonal line, colours and - first of all - the clouds surrounding the rock that create an interesting effect.

Jan

Hi Patrick
Interesting sky and rock formations. I see what you mean about the noise but this is still a great image. Well composed. Good bold colours too.

Tosca
