Photographer’s Note

As winter solstice closes in, the Homo Noellus Quebecencis starts to suffer deeply from light deprivation, a condition caused by the constant shortening of daylight time for these last five months north of the equator, and more specefically north of the 45th parallel (december 6th, sunrise 7:19 A.M. and sunset 4:12 P.M.). So he feels compelled to shed some light on his surroundings. In some cases, this tendency is multiplied manifold by a perverted version of "The Holiday Spirit", originally rooted in celebrating the birth of Christianity's main figure, Jesus of Nazareth, and contemporarily expanded in celebrating the retail sales' industry.

This striking example was gathered on Bercy Street (not a cold-ridden version of Peter Gabriel's stunning ode to poetess Ann Sexton!) just north of Ontario street.

But, no irony here, if these colours can strike a spark of joy in your hearth despite their cost in energy as Montreal welcomes the United Nations Climate Change Conference , then it'll be worth it.

Tech talk: shot with the S1is resting in the palm of my hand on the sidewalk, which explains the slight motion blur at the top - slightly compensated by the downsizing and a fair share of sharpening... Curves were used to brighten the midtones, thus enlarging the "halos" of light around the small sources, and free transform while holding the "command" key (apple) helped correct the overwhelming vanishing lines towrds the top of the building
