Photographer’s Note
Lindesnes Light House is located on the southernmost point in Norway. This light is 16.1 m (53 ft) tall and sits on a cliff along the southwest coast of Norway, making it 50.1 m (164 ft) above sea level. It houses a first order lens which reaches 19.4 nautical miles out into the North Sea. A light has been shown at this location since 1655, the earliest being a wood fire in a large, vented metal basket. In 1799 a stone building was constructed with the fire basket on top. The ruins of the base of that building remain on the site today. The present building, built in 1918, also houses a weather station with weather reports being sent to Bergen every 3 hours. This is a very popular tourist location and about 60,000 people visit here each year.
