Photographer’s Note
Union Square, San Francsico - an area of massive civic buildings, museums, shops, hotels and restuarants - a place very popular with tourists. I liked this place due to the wide open plazas and street markets. As a visitor I was struck by the number of guys hanging around looking as if they were unemployed - obviously not a land of plenty for everyone. I met some weird, colourful and wonderful looking people, a guy (or perhaps a guyess) wearing the biggest black sombrero you've ever seen, a doorman with the biggest smile and the ever ready chat up line at a shopping mall entrance 'Have a NICE DAY you Beautiful Ladieeeesh'.
I really like the shapes here against the blue sky and the signs and other street furniture.

Hi Fan - I'm not sure what it is about this that I like so much but I really do - I think it's as much the incredible range of varieties of shapes and angles based around the oblong format - and the street furniture and signs - there is just so much going on in this image - devoid of the street level and the space of the sky above somehow the 'personality' of these buildings comes into it's own - more like animate objects in some way - I think this is a really clever image.
best wishes Kev
