Photographer’s Note

Trastevere, a popular part of Rome with lots of restaurants and night life in the narrow streets.

Here a capture of a building close to the church: Santa Maria in Trastevere.

A little puddle of water, including some butts of filter cigarettes - a little unusual view from this very interesting city.

Trastevere is the XIII rione of Rome, it is on the west bank of the Tiber, south of the Vatican City. Its name comes from the latin trans Tiberim, meaning "beyond the Tiber". Its logo is a golden head of a lion on a red background. Its meaning is not sure, but maybe it was about the proud personality of the people from Trastevere.

At the early beginning of the Rome history (754-509 BC), the Trastevere area was an hostile part belonging to the Etruscans. Rome conquered it in order to have the control of the river from both the sides. In any case, this had only a strategic aim, Rome was not interested in building anything on that side; in fact the only connection between Trastevere and the rest of the city was just a small wooden bridge called "Sublicius".
