Dusk in winter. This was taken from the balcony of a ski lodge in Thredbo. The light streaming out of that house looked so warm amid the snow.

Good - the light coming from that house does look so warm against the cold background.

This scene looks alpine - like somehting you'd see in a ski resort in Europe, and is very different from what many peoples image of Australia would be!

umm in a way this has the feel similar to that in this one by mccurry.. i guess because of the type of exposure which has given an overwhelming colour tone in both...
but unlike that photographs.. yours doesn't have anything much going on in the photograph..
i'm not saying that you could have done anything about it.. you couldn't.. unless you made a friend go out in the cold and do something :)
but maybe some other composition or something might have helped.. for example.. you could have also tried out vertical photograph and tried to use the accentuate the graphic effect obtained by using the mountain slope cutting across diagonally.. maybe then you might have also been able to catch the slope of the mountain in the background as well..
this is a very beautiful photograph.. but it's beautiful mainly because the place itself is very beautiful ( i really envy you :)) but as a photograph itself.. it seems closer to a point and shoot photograph than one which includes some thought process

Nice, when I saw your picture in small format I have imagined anything else.
Maybe trying a crop could give more abstraction or contrast to this picture...
