Photographer’s Note

The last stage of Tour de France 2005 in Paris. I captured Lance Armstrong in the yellow yersey heading his pack of team mates in the Discovery Channel Pro cycling team. This was said to be Lance Armstrong's last stage on Le Tour ever. The weather was cloudy and rainy all day.

... and the Tour won't be the same again. Now, Jean Marie LeBlanc says that the tour will be better without Armstrong... I cannot imagine that. it will be the fight of 2nd placers... and not a decent french rider on the horizon (this is why leBlanc and the french press is so nasty with Armstrong). I predict 4 americans in the top 10 at the end of the 2006 Tour (levi Liepheimer, Floyd Landis, Tom Danielson and Bobby Julich)... and only 1 frenchman in the top 20.

Well, for a cycling photo it is not so great, but at this point of the race, you can't get close so it is hard for a good angle. even if it was a part of the course were you can get close, you shouldn't. Cycling is the only race were you can run next to the athlete, and it shouldn't be like that, it causes so many problems (2001 Giro D'Italia, Wladamir Belli punches spectator for screaming obscenities in his face... while climbing, what a scene!!). I would like to see some fan run next to Ronaldo, shouting at him... it would never happen... anyways, time to stop ranting. thanks for the cycling photo.

Nice capture! Obviously this is not the easiest picture to take, seeing as they were probably going by at about 40-50kph. I have to completely agree with Don. The tour will not be the same. Its great that Lance has done so much for both cycling and the fight against cancer. He has brought cycling to the forefront of sports in America (and for more than two weeks in July). Next year should be another good showing for the Americans. I know I'm already looking forward to it.
