Blacklight London Underground Photo

Photographer’s Note

Yes, I bet you didn't know that on Saturday nights in a particular station in the London Underground near the nightlife district, for the last few hours of the evening, they get into the spirit and light the station only with blacklights and play rock music over the speakers between train arrival and departure messages, which the London Underground employees say as if they were DJs.

I wonder if anyone actually bought that story up to this point? Click here for the original.

Actually, it would be really cool if they did that, except that I like jazz not rock, but in that lighting, I guess you'd have to have rock, wouldn't you.

I used a neon glow filter and played with the shadow/hightlights to get the effect and moved the man closed to the platform and made his shirt glow white since that is what blacklight does. It doesn't light much of anything except light colors.

Perhaps too much PP for a picture in TE? Maybe, or maybe not, because I think you are telling a story with this photo.
Yes, it would be great to have such a metro station at least somewhere in the world, and why not start with London, being a very cosmopolitan city, with DJs and all the stuff that goes along.
I like the train blurred by the motion, it adds a sense of life of the big city.

I was believing you story too Thomas - duh! I was in Paris once and they have a metro station near the Louvre that is decorated like part of the Louvre itself, so why not a "rock station" ! Interesting shot, a surreal image. How did you create it? I'm interested.

Great lines here and good effects, I like it! Good POV and convincing motion blur, and nice placement and pose of the guy in the back... But you shouldn't do this after a happy night out as you may stumble and fall... hmmmm
