After a hectic day, flying from Bagan to Mandalay, scorching sun, so many impression flying through my mind. Racing from place to place. I sat down in the shade in the Sandamuni Pagoda and let the quietness that was radiating from this lady engulf me. Slowly my thoughts slowed and I was able to SEE again. Before I left I took this picture without disturbing her, without intruding into her thoughts. She didnt see me, but the people passing did.
By the old Moulmein Pagoda, lookin' lazy at the sea,
There's a Burma girl a-settin', and I know she thinks o' me;
For the wind is in the palm-trees, and the temple-bells they say;
"Come you back, you British Soldier; come you back to Mandalay!"

That's a beauty Elaine
nice lightening and well composed shot with the two people in the background, all three between the two pillars as a unit on the right of the frame leaving a nice speace open before her , she is totaly on herself with her devotional mind, very peacefull scene.

The people in the background bother me...it would have been such a great shot if you had waited a few moments for them to disappear. Also, due to the busy background, an f-stop in the range of f/2.8 would have been ideal to isolate your subject a bit more from the world around her. It's not a bad shot, though.

I'm not OK with Philip, the scene is better with the two tourists; something make us feel unconfortable, i think: they are really close to this woman face (on the picture, not really).
I think it's a good way to communicate their intrusive way of being.

Beautifully composed scene of great serenity, Elaine. I side with Joel here: I to think these passersby add a dimension to this. Had you waited for the opposite, the resulting glaring empty space there would have lacked something.
Really remarkable work from this trip.

A really beautiful calm, calming composition Elaine - this is really such a lovely gentle picture - the balance and posture of the people in the background really says something about the place which compliments the devotional contemplation of the woman in the foreground.
best wishes Kev
