apart from their dialect, the only other thing that distinguished the pahari korwas from other similar tribes in the region are their bulbous toes which they develp due to constantly walking barefeet on mountains.

love it sohrab. very, very good. Only regret is the shadow of the legs, which is distracting from the Feets + hand triangle. But it would have been weird to have the shadow of the hand and not the feets i guess

a little disturbing but so informative ... this hand reminds me the Midnight oil's hand and their fight to protect aborigens. a nice tribute to the old ethnic group ....

ALSOM (6616) 2005-10-28 8:36
Excellent composition, the hand's shadow between the foot full of details.
Thanks for the note.

Nice one, Sohrab. I really like how you filled the frame with just three simple elements...two feet and one hand (or its shadow more like). Such a simple shot yet quite powerful indeed. Well done.

Love it, artsy but telling and fits the story, simplicy makes it easy to understand.
I like the link provided by Hugues.

It's a great image. I like the feet very much; I find the hand comic.

That is a really cool idea. I like it. Was that hand posed? Was it yours? Good composition and lighting. Nice job. JP

Hi Sohrab, very interesting picture, I probably wouldn't have noticed the tows hadn't you mentioned them in your note. Beautiful composition with the shadow and all.
arindam_thokder (3987) 2005-10-28 18:30
Excellent Shot Sohrab, telling the identity with a very simple but loud picture. The composition is really a creative one.
Is that your hand?
JonKilimnik (0) 2005-10-28 19:32
Excellent bit of info1 And I love the shot....the BW is oerfect for it and I just love the composition.

hello, Sohrab :)
I ask myself whether the shadow is necessary to be shown. the feet with the lines and visible suffering are beautifully enough for me, occupying half of your shot.
Furachan (0) 2005-10-29 3:31
Brilliant minimalist approach...a world revealed in a pair of bare feet. the shadow of the hand (yours?) enhances the graphism and brigs in a disturbing element. Good note to top it off.
Great to see you posting again, Sohrab.
rowanb (864) 2005-10-29 6:25
beautiful shot, its all about the details, the lines and roughness of the feet speak of so much hardship. i wonder also whether the shadow of the hand is necessary, its adds an interesting touch though.

Hi Sohrab. It's been awhile, but here I am. Lovely shot, you always impress me, it does look a bit staged, but it still works very well. I'm not a great feet lover but this pair really tells a story of a culture. Cool.
CliffW (2377) 2005-10-29 13:30
The one thing I always find with your photos Sohrab is that they will nearly always be presented in a way that I've not seen before. This one is a perfect example and it's simple and excellent. The hand shadow is inspired.

Original and arty. Such long toes:) Works well in b&w. Clever sohrab!
AnimeshRay (9089) 2005-10-29 16:39
Well, Sohrab, good illustration of the feet with a brilliant touch to include the shadow of a hand in here...perhaps the most creatively original 'documentation' photo I have seen...others would include a foot long ruler!! :-)
But when I look at my own toes and see the same bulbous shape there, I cannot help but doubt the causal connection. I think it is genetic, not environmental, and many folks, myself included, would have such bulbous appendeges to hide inside their socks!
maciekda (19895) 2005-11-01 6:26
very nice photo Sohrab, the compo is very effective, I don't see a connection between the shadow and the feet, but it looks really good, very good moment, interesting work
but I wonder whose hand is it? yours?
cobraphil8 (82) 2005-11-07 5:40
An idea, a composition and with final very good shot.
I like much this approach.
I hope to see other photographs in this style.

A very nice conceptual shot. And black and white enhances it.

Extremely interesting photo. I like the compostion and feeling of the image. Very thought provoking
alyssaroma (220) 2006-02-23 2:17
I love this! I can imagine the millions of faces that could go with those feet...
asanak (1972) 2006-04-27 18:51
Very nice composition and excellent focus.
i really love your shot!
iGirl (1223) 2006-06-29 13:22
Hi Sohrab, this is a very interesting idea with the shadow of the hand. The shadow turns an ordinary picture of feet into something graphic and interesting. Thanks for sharing!
