Photographer’s Note

I took that image 3 years ago, during a 4 days travel to the Chianti Region in Tuscany.
We went there for a marriage of a couple of friend of Milano that choose Chianti for the wedding.
We sleeped in a small village called Montefiridolfi, that is part of the Municipality of San Casciano Val di Pesa, 20 km south of Firenze and in the northern part of the historical Region of the Chianti, that is located in the Province of Siena and Firenze.
Montefiridolfi, is a village of not more 20 houses and villas, all built centuries ago, and some other old villas along the small streets that run up and down on the hills, in the most typical landscape of Chianti.
Chianti have the heart in the small city of Greve in Chianti, that is also the geographical centre of the Region and home to Chianti's largest wine fair, held every September.
Few miles fromhe city centre of Greve, there is the beautiful Castle di Verrazzano, where was born Giovanni da Verrazzano in the 1485. He discovered the harbour where there is New York City in the 1524.

Chianti is Italy's most famous red wine. It used to be easily identified by its squat bottle enclosed in a straw basket, called fiaschi.
It is produced in Tuscany, in strictly delimited areas among the provinces of Florence, Siena, Arezzo and Grosseto. It is based mainly on Sangiovese grapes but also includes other varieties. Chianti is a DOC, but corresponds to a much larger area than the region originally known as Chianti. Wine from this smaller region is labeled Chianti Classico and is a DOCG. It typically has a picture of a black rooster (known in Italian as a gallo nero) on the neck of the bottle. Chianti Classico that meets slightly more stringent requirements, primarily with respect to aging, may be labelled Chianti Classico Riserva.

Chianti is not the only traditional wine made in Tuscany, and there are also new wines, usually based on sangiovese and some popular french grape that are usually dubbed "Super Tuscans".
