Photographer’s Note
Every city has their cliche' photo. The spot where all the tourists go to get a photo of their city. Well this is ours, taken from a lookout at Kings Park which coincidently is the largest inner city park in the world.
I decided to play around with the image in an attempt to keep away from the typical tourist shot, and have come up with this. Altered with the levels in PS, and converted to black and white, except the freeway.

Good composition here. I like the way the two red tongues are crossing the image with the skyline in the background creating a mix of light. Good perspective and defintion.
Well done!

Hi Brendan,
Great PP work. In fact the contrast of the orange freeways against the B&W city gives an amazing effect. Well done

The lights are a bit overexposed in this image--and I think it's a great choice! It turns a decidely obligatory photo into something unique. I love the glow the effect creates. The red pulse at bottom is especially welcome. This city looks like a living entity.

i think even without the changes it would be a very nice photo- even if it's a cliche view-but the effect of your play with PP is fantastic!A great idea to leave the freeway unchanged, the co0lour contrast that has been created thanks to that is really attractive. The general effect is original- i'd definitely like to have a poster like that:-)
best regards!

Cliches are good. Ive taken quite a few. This is cliche with an artistic flair. The color within b/w works here, because its subtle enough that it doesnt infringe on the rest of the shot.

Cliche or not it's well done. Normally I vehemently detest split colour/BW imagery as being contrived but, admittedly, this one works. You've found a balance between the calendar-quality Steve Parish stuff and all the other B/W cityscape stuff. Whether it's original or not is irrelevant, we all have our own spin no matter how subtle.
I like Perth but I've never been there and images like this have romanticised 'The West' for me anyhow. It's nice that Perth has a neat vantage point from which you can see the whole skyline, Melbourne doesn't quite have one where you can get all the buildings together like this-- not unless you travel down to Albert Park. The newest skyscrapers seem to block out the existing ones rather than compliment them.

Hi Brendan,
Beautiful skyline shot. Very nice idea to keep the car lights on colours. It added a real dinamism to the picture. Nicely done.

Hi Brendan.
This skyline is impresive. Furthermore, the contrast between the lights & dark & the orange is lovely.

Brendan, this is an excellent night shot. Very sharp and well exposed. B&W on it's own would have been a bit plain so I'm glad you left in the streak of colour across the frame.

Hi Brendan! Normally I don't like cities! But I have to admit that you skyline pic of perth is amazing! Especially the fact that you made it with a long shutter speed makes it fascinating! And it's great that only the car lines are coloued! Nice effect!:-)

hey brendan ... this is a good shot of the perth cityscape. just a 5 second exposure? wow! good result considering your settings.
the b&w is good with just that touch of colour from car brake lights streaming down the freeways.
nice work! you should include in your note where you got this shot from.
