If you looked at the title of this shot your first thought was probably that there is a contradiction here. For my third post of Robin Hood’s Bay I wanted to show a typical narrow street. This street is called Sunny Place…. Really!…For such a narrow street I guess the sun isn’t there for very long; certainly not at 10:30 on a September morning, and if you have seen my previous shots from here it was a sunny day. You might be interested to make comparisons with the narrow streets of nearby Runswick Bay, where the houses are also built into the cliffs. If so look here. As mentioned in my first post of Robin Hood’s Bay, this village was a very busy smuggling community in the 18th century, most of the villagers involved in some way. It was said that a bolt of silk could be passed through the narrow streets in next to no time to evade the excise men. Just for fun I posted a WS. Read my note there.

I squatted down to take the shot to emphasise the cobbles. I had a poloriser on the lens so I took it off for this, as it was so dark.
In PSP I used curves to bring out some of the detail, and used the burn tool on the bright wall just left of centre, as it was over-exposed.

Hi Kath, it really looks like a pleasant (yes even romantic) place. Nice with those red flowers that give extra colour to the alley. Good upgoing line and depth here due to your pov. well done

A very nice low POV ( as I love it ) ...I like the lights&shadows effect on the houses and the stones texture on the floor..well done Kath,
have a nice day, Fabio.

Good perspective from the low angle highlighting this alley with the stairs leading the eye to the house on the top.
Good composition.
Well done!

Hi Kath
I love these streets with stone stairs .... partly because we don't have any of these in Canada (well very few of them in Quebec)
THanks for sharing this wonderful view from the POV of a pedestrian
cheers .... sarju

Hi Kath
Not sunny, but flowery Place! I like this kind of atmosphere, old and romantic. You're right, it reminds to my yesterday post.

Hi Kath,
Very nice compostion of this beautiful corner. The colours and the lighting are fine. Great perspective and depth! Very well done!

Regards John

Nice low POV, it really does bring out the atmosphere of this lovely little place. It's just a shame there wasn't more colour in the sky but you can't have everything! Great shot.

Great shot.I like it.Good composition and angle.Great contrast between the buildings and the sky.Good textures, light, sharpness and colors.I like the detail of the flowers.Good job!

Such a magical place Kath - my first encounter was at night having known nothing about it before that moment - just entrancing!

Great sharpness throughout the image and thankyou for describing your PP so well - great note.

best wishes kev

Hi Kath,
A well composed shot which well depicts this interesting lane. The clarity is superb, as one can see the individual cobblestones and the shadow effect really makes the shot work. The eye is drawn upward along the street and there is almost a 3D effect. Great capture. I really like the tones here.
John

Hi Kath, I like this well composed picture. You have well captured the characteristic of the old walkway. I guess that it is hard to find those old walk way now days. The walkway leads to the distanced sunny buildings. The road is well shaded by the buildings surrounding it. Nice contrast and good details.

Hi Kath.
Lovely place. Really lovely street.
Many times I've tried make one photo like this, but everytime I've had problems with the light and the contrast. But this one is great.
The light, the colour, the composition and even the street.

Could be very simple, but I like very much.
Thanks for share.
