Photographer’s Note
Well, I’ve been struggling with a REAL wide angle these last few days. I don’t know if you’re really aware of the situation and can therefore share the suffering I’ve been through, but let’s put it this way: every time I look through the viewfinder, I have a vertiginous view on the surrounding world and I fall. Fortunately my lens hood hits the floor before my nose, which has kept me away from an hospital’s bed until now.
This was taken in Rue du Perron which I had previously portrayed in another photograph posted in TE last year. This is definitely one of the streets to visit when wandering around Geneva’s old town. The little girl, of course, is my daughter: I know, no family shots and no pets allowed, but hey…she’s a cool babe, believe me.

Bien vu

Yes Gal, I immediately believe you when you say she's a cool babe. And I also believe you when you say that you really have to get used to a wide angle lens. I try sometimes the 18 mm on people, but it scares me what comes out every now and then. And that is 18 mm, and you go back all the way to 10. Wow, I would like to try it!
There's a bit the feeling that my looks are blocked by the top of your frame, curious as I am sometimes, I would like to see the rest of the Rue du Perron (there's a Dutch poet, who's called Edgar du Perron, but I can't imagine that a street in Geneva is named after him;-)), although there's no doubt about it that your daughter is the main attraction at the moment. Woow, what a depth because of the railing

Gal bonsoir - perspective splendide entre l'enfant et les escaliers et qui permet d'aller jusqu'au bas de la rue -
c'est superbe et le NB est parfaitement adapté -
Merci et bonne soirée

Your superb chronicling of Geneve's Old Town goes on unabated and in no way diminished by the vertigo-inducing extra-wide. You are far too sophisticated a photog to let the lens drag you away from your objective. In fact this is classic wide composition - a ALRGE fopreground subject with a "perte de vue" perspective beyond.
Well done, my friend. Bravo!

Well...your last pics have a beautiful special effect! This one is just an exemple of it. Great shot. Very interesting perspective. B&W choice was happy.
Well done and seen.

one more great shot Gal; and exactly what I totally like in this photo is a play with wide lense; I really like the oportunities that they are giving; they are really playfull and in this photo they work great; dizzines conected with hiperactive child; well that's something I just imagine here, but there's my impression...
anyway nice play again with wide lense, stairs and "small people";
ciao

hi gal, i also love wide angles and like to play with it a lot, in fact i find everything below 15 mm being a challange which is also very satysfactory in photography; and i also loke the results - like the one you posted today, with very good perspective, nice repetitions, excellent light and exposure handling;
have fun with that lens!
take care, jerzy

Hi Gal,
Watch out! Do not hurt yourself!
Excelent composition and the b/w tones (once again) are great. About the model, you know that I will not make any kind of comments. Simply superbe.
Another great performance!

Hello Gal.

Ciao/jr

Hé Gal!
Cool Babe is Cool ;)
j'aime le point de vue
le traitement un peu old qui va bien avec cette rue antique
et puis le vignetage + grand angle nous fait plonger !
Bravo
Très chouette !!

:-)))) Yes I recognise your daughter, and these extreme wide shots are very striking, with lots of options for experimentation. Great use made of the steps here, I'd be interested to know what you've set this one (and future) at, must be somewher sloce to 10mm.

Hello Gal,
i like this picture who reminds me "Degrés-de-Poule".
the POV and composition are unusual and very effective.
it makes the image stronger that the babe is not looking at you.
the conversion and tones of your BW are beautiful.
nicely done.

Another interesting picture from you Gal. I like the POV an dI like the composition. The color tones compliment the documentray tone of the picture.

I figured as much. I kept seeing her in some of your photos. But, as your scene are on the border of minimalistic and sophisticatedly simple, you just can't get anyone to lead the viewer. Throw in vignetting, and the tunnel vision just lead in a lot more.

Excellent use of the wide angle, and B/W, here, Gal! It tells the story of "a child and her world she's just returning from," very vividly.
Even though I've only been in Geneva once, I think I recognize this spot--is it around the corner, in the distance, in this shot? Then again, I may be remembering incorrectly.
Nice work, regards, Ken.

hi Gal :)
I have a 12-24mm now and I feel the same..I am not even sure why I paid all that money for a lens...
I guess it has been some time but I see you have a new camera...happy with it ? I used a 20D for some time this summer which killed me with its colors...I still think my best came out with my good old 5700 :))
this reminds me of my "Merve"..I guess it is only because of the girl..I like the angle but it is even making me dizzy now :)
all the best, missed you..
