Wind Mill, a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

There are a lot of these mills along the windy Portuguese Coast, specially north of Lisbon. This mill is located 30 kms north of Lisbon (Sobral de Monte Agraco) and is now in good condition. These mills are now desactivated and many of them are in ruins. In the past, flour was produced by milling the grain under a big grindstone. The wind moves the great wheel when its sails (now rolled up) are unrolled. The pottery at the extremity of the wheel sticks produces a whirring whose intensity and tone aids the sleepy miller to appreciate the wind mood. The movement of the big wheel is transmitted to a vertical axis which is connected to the grindstone bed where grains are milled ...

New for me, I have never seen such a mill. Your photo is nice, the composition is made a success and colours are saturated well. Good shot! A note would have been appreciated.

Boas cores e definição. Gosto bastante do jogo de cores entre o branco e o azul presentes tanto no céu como no moinho.

Escolheste um bom ponto de vista com o jogo entre a luz e a sombra. Penso que se se visse um pouco mais para o lado direito a composição ficava um pouco mais equilibrada e criava uma relação entre as velas e o ar que as move.

Love the range of blues. Great clouds, this is a dynamic photo for one where the main subject is inactive.
