This is a working class home in the east end of Toronto. In the background are some old apartment buildings that also house mostly working class families.
I wanted to show a segment of society usually not photographed in tourist brochures and travel mags. These people don't have the money for flashy houses or cars, and they aren't impoverished enough to "deserve" attention. They just do their part without any fanfare.
... as a little note, that apartment to the right was my first home in Canada when I was but a wee lad of two :)

a real life, the different canada than we saw in beautfull scenery shot. Felipe, for you, this must be a journey to the past arround neighborhood :-) You know, people always comeback, because they have memories. Like this one.

Excellent shot. I love the gittyness of this shot: the colours and the almost unreal feeling to it. The composition is excellent and again, a true look at what the world really is like.

Great story alongside the stark picture. No frills here folks, just solid photojournalism reporting. This scene is repeated all over the world and here in Chicago and in many cities, they are getting away from the high rise model of lowcost housing and are tearing them down. Nice personal aside too.

I agree with all the others here too. Its the real world. What you see is what you get. Not everyone has BMWs and huge condos. Just average people living their lives. Nice realistic shot.

I also agree with the others... a good piece of reporting. To make it better - and I know this is a tall order - it may have been interesting to have the occupant of the house in the photo as well, I can't help wondering what they look like. Uh, also in keeping with the 'rawness' of the shot, it would be interesting to see it with the colours de-saturated a bit.

Very good picture. Yes, you are right. This is not something you see in tourist brochures, but it is something I want to know or want to see if it really exists.
