Communication with the Waves Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a very simple shot, probably one of the simplest I’ve ever done in Bali. We were having dinner in Jimbaran when I spotted this boy selling corn, peanuts, etc. He was the only vendor in a cart along the shore of the beach. The way he arranged his wares was eye-catching and he never shouted nor pestered people like other vendors who went around from table to table to peddle their goods. I admired his serenity and his contemplative stare at the ocean. He has a special communication with the waves while I had a special shot of him. Tomorrow I’ll post a picture of this boy…up close and personal.

(Auto-controls, that’s all I’ve done. Also straightened the horizon.)

Yes, very simple and very excellent. Great subject and atmosphere. The contemplative stare at the ocean you mentioned is the heart of this image, I think. Very well done.

Great composition! The body position of the boy is really expressive, and the contrast of the flat ones against the colorful tropical fruits is great!

Also like the fact that theresnot one stright line in the photo, all are diagonals, and even the horizon is curved.

I don't think the composition is simple. The lines of the waves and tracks on the shore come together somewhere in the right. The slightly tilted horizon only accenuates this pattern. The boy is placed perfectly. But the cart drains attention too by its mass. IMHO I would left some space under the cart unless there was something there you wanted to hide :-) Thank you for this beautiful shot!

The atmosphere of the contemplative worker is returned well in this photo. The composition is excellent and colours are saturated well.

Most people who came to Bali have a lot of photos of sunsets, mountains, prosessions of local festivals etc. which were vary touristy and boring. You made a difference. Your photo shows the human relationship with their surrounding. Salute.
