Photographer’s Note

Lake Saint Point is located in the Jura mountains not far from Pontarlier. It is the 3rd biggest natural lake in France and a beautiful recreation area, offering plenty of activities related to the lake (fishing, swimming, boating) or its mountain surroundings (hiking, biking, touring the cheese plants, castles, skiing or sledging in winter).
Being there on a long week end we had the chance to get 3 sunny days between weeks of rain, and on the 3rd morning I could wake up early enough to go to the lakeside and take a few shots.

Such a tranquil mood you've captured here, Jean Yves, with beautiful early morning light and lovely colours. The green of the boats and the touches of red make a nice contrast with the blues. I like the attractive curve of the stone wall and the reflection of the trees.

Salut Monsieur.
Pas mal ce point de vue, jolie vue.
Le cadrage est bien vu, avec ces barques et cette courbe de la rive qui nous emmène dans le fond de l'image.
Jolie lumière horizontale également....qui nous donne de jolies ombres.
Les reflets dans l'eau sont également de toute beauté.
Mais je sais pas si c'est mes yeux, mais y a un truc qui me semble bizarre sur l'arrière de la première barque....je rêve?

A perfect outing for the 10-22! A nice POV with the boats in the foreground and the angle emphasises the breadth of the river. I like the way we are able to see that the water so clear in the foreground, but then in the middle ground there are lots of lovely clear reflections showing how still the water is. A nice calm and peaceful shot.

The wide lens you used made this photo interesting, the composition is correct, without a very original idea. The details on the right bank doesn't look very good, the left bank - drowns in almost black... So summary - just a photo - not bad, not very good :-)

encore une jolie vue d'un endroit où il n'y a que toi qui va...
encore une fois bien construite.
le 350d fait des merveilles, tres clair , par contre un petit peu de distorsion avec ton 10-22.

ça c'est du grand angle ! j'adore ce genre la, je crois avoir trouver le genre d'objectif a me faire offir pour noel. les couleurs sur l'eau son magnifiques et la courbe nous amene bien vers ces arbres qui se refletent.

Is it my imagination or is this picture leaning? Nice use of the 10-22 here to emphasise depth, and the smoothness of the water is beautiful. Interesting distortion for the left boat, shame that the left bank is so dark though. At least you had better weather than in Basel on the 1.8!

la focale utilisée , grand angle entraine des déformations, mais comme tout le monde le sait, élargit le champs de vision.
Les coulers, superbes comme d'hab.
Un endroit que tu nous donnes envie de voir 'en vrai'.

There has been a lot said about the distortion of the boat due to the wide angle lens and then a remark about the lake not being level. There is only a small part of the lake where it is possible to check the horizon and it looks OK to me. Could the distortion also create the effect of a skewed horizon?
I like the composition with the curved wall leading the eye. Maybe just a bit more lake showing to the left of the "distorted" boat would be better. On the whoe another pleasing image

Ben oui, quoi, y'a un peu de distortion... et alors? Avec un 10mm c'est normal comme effet et moi, personnellement, j'aime bien!
La lumière matinale est très douce et la couleur pastel des bateaux contribue à renforcer l'ambiance relaxante qui émane de cette photo.

Well I see how your 10-22mm really comes in handy here. Nice shot Jean
I see one thing about using this lens is fitting all the elements into the frame. On th eleft hand side the boat comes right to the edge. I also know that with this wide angle the shot changes dramatically by changing your position. For instance because this lens has such an outstanding depth of field its always best to add alot of drama to your photos. Suppose you were to get so close to one corner of a boat and then let the rest of the scene fill the balance of the scene. Using this method of shooting will show to others a very creative point of view that others have never seen before.
Shooting at this time of day it great. Good color and low shadows really adds a special touch. The rd trim on the boars really adds a lovely touch to the color. Amazingly calm and mirror like reflections. Great work Jean

euh l'autre, il critique ma perspective ... va pas aller bien loin ta barque avec cette distorsion. Et puis le bord du lac, il est pas droit, tout tordu lui aussi ... t'aurais pas abusé des vins du jura des fois !
Et puis d'abord, c'est de la provoc que de me montrer des images de Pontarlier sous le soleil , moi qui ait eu un temps pourri en juillet !!!
Merite à peine un monstre vert ... lol !

Le grand angle a donné ici une perspective interessante, peut être aurait il fallu laisser un peu plus d'espace entre la barque de gauche et le bord de l'image, mais ce sera mon seul reproche sur cette belle image.
Je travail tout près de cet endroit, beaucoup de mes collègues habitent portalier

Je reviens des Pays bas où comme prévu, j'ai été mouillé par la météo... Enfin, je suis allé dans quelques bateaux français...(Bel Espoir, Rara Avis et aussi la Cancalaise avec Rinie et Sophie!)

Enfin, je suis revenu entier... avec un moulin hollandais ;)
A propos de cette photo, elle est très belle et le fait que tu aies utilisé l'objectif 10-22, la forme de la barque de gauche est quelque peu étrange. Enfin, c'est très bien vu quand même...;)

Nice sight the lake, it seems a mirror.
I like the DoF create by the border of the lake.
Working with a super widea-angular give to the boata kind of distortion. But it's ok, i like it!

Very nice colored one, the corner a bit distorted, clear colors and water you can see through, good comosed with low POV and persoective curve boats in front we can look deep in this shot.
