Etretat is best known for its cliffs, including several natural arches. These cliffs and the associated resort beach attracted and inspired artists such as Eugène Isabey, Eugène Delacroix, Camille Corot, Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin und Claude Monet to paint them.
Writers like Alphonse Karr, Victor Hugo, Alexandre Dumas and Guy de Maupassant enjoyed the town's charm.
This photo presents the Chapel Notre Dame de la Garde on top of the Falaise d'Amont with the Porte d'Amont, the by far smallest arch of all.
