Photographer’s Note
New buildings, lining a new street in Chengdu, within the style of old China. Some techniques, where woodcarving and ironwork are concerned, follow in the old style, however, some new materials have also been employed. The whole street begins with an ornate gate and ends at a t-junction beyond which is a river. This is the most pristine area of town and most decorative. At night, sometimes, large red paper lanterns are hung from finials and cornices illuminating features of the street. It was an overcast day. The image was scanned and levels were adjusted. The colours are reflective of the original.

Beautiful composition. The colours are excellent and the photo is very sharp. I love the fact that many new buildings in China are being built with characteristics of the tradition architecture. You have captured this well.

Miroslawa, even though you were pointing the camera up, the perspective is holding up impressively. Since the sky was so bright, I would have avoided including it at all costs. It tends to destroy the contrast of the top part of the picture, wouldn't you agree?
I believe having the street is important here, if at least to anchor the buildings, and help us with a sense of balance. My suggestion is to take some more pictures at dusk (when the sky is not so bright anymore, and hopefully some lanterns are already on).
