Photographer’s Note

Today my youngest daughter Malia and I hiked up Hamilton Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge where we live. This trail is about 15 miles west of our home, and one of my favorite hikes. It's moderately steep and there are waterfalls about 1 1/2 miles up the trail, these are Hardy falls and Rodney falls. I believe this one is the Hardy falls, but I'm not sure about that. The hike was very fun, we didn't go the entire 4 miles to the top of Hamilton Mountain, probably only went about 3 miles up, but we did end up hiking for 5 hours start to finish. Malia was a great hiking partner, we even found some deer antlers off the trail she was quite excited about finding.

It was a very peaceful day, we only saw two other people for the first 3 hours of our hike, then on the way down saw 7 others total, pretty good on the solitude scale!

Photo: I took this with my "sport" setting on my camera hoping it would have a faster shutter speed, it seems to have worked fairly well.
