Photographer’s Note
Today my youngest daughter Malia and I hiked up Hamilton Mountain in the Columbia River Gorge where we live. This trail is about 15 miles west of our home, and one of my favorite hikes. It's moderately steep and there are waterfalls about 1 1/2 miles up the trail, these are Hardy falls and Rodney falls. I believe this one is the Hardy falls, but I'm not sure about that. The hike was very fun, we didn't go the entire 4 miles to the top of Hamilton Mountain, probably only went about 3 miles up, but we did end up hiking for 5 hours start to finish. Malia was a great hiking partner, we even found some deer antlers off the trail she was quite excited about finding.
It was a very peaceful day, we only saw two other people for the first 3 hours of our hike, then on the way down saw 7 others total, pretty good on the solitude scale!
Photo: I took this with my "sport" setting on my camera hoping it would have a faster shutter speed, it seems to have worked fairly well.

I saw this photo a few minutes ago and go distracted, ( I'm playing chess and TE surfing while my husbnad ponders his next move). this is wonderful I really like the transparency of the water and the stones beneath it.
I think I will try your suggestion of the sport setting, this weekend i tried taking photos of a water fall and they came out horrible. Thanks for the tip.
I really like the testure of the rocks here, this place looks quite peaceful.

Hi Lori,
Beautiful composition here. This looks like a very nice place to hike. The water is so clear here, makes this really nice. Nice cropping here.
One thing to say, I think for these falls a slow shutter speed would work best. Not too big, low water volume, that "milky" effect would be quite beautiful here.
