[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
No mistakes here. This picture is uncropped and this is how i intended it to be. Aetas, of the Philippines, are marginalized people. They have no homes of their own and they are looked down by the vast majority. However, they try to live an honest and dignified life and the way people look at them is changing a little. This picture says it all. It is only partly hidden to show that they are starting to get into the mainstream. I chose a child to send the message across. His innocent look is begging for acceptance. I also shoot him against the powdery white sand of Boracay to set the contrast of his dark skin and the sand. The society should be more welcoming as the sand.
Auto level, contrast and color. I desaturated the color a bit. The absence of a big frame (as in my other picture) is intentional. Give me your comments PLEASE. I want to present this to our Filipino Community here in Bangkok. Any way that I can improve this?

This is very well done Manny. Your composition, the look in the boys eyes, the stark background and even the snot under his nose all make for a very compelling shot. This is very good.

Wow. What an impact this photo has!
I don't think you need to improve this photo at all! All I have to say is WOW!!! No other words seem to come to mind!
Definately present this photo! :)

Just wonderful: exactly the kind of picture I love;: You did it again. Bravo, nothing else to say.

Extremely powerful portrait Manuel, the tight frame on the right works really well. A beautiful child too with a nosedrip that symbolizes his human fragility. Excellent work!

Wonderful composition. I do not understand exactly how you composed the background, but the result is here and really nice. The child's expression is wonderful.

Wonderful photo!
I like very much the way you framed it, it adds something... Like: "You don't know everything, but please keep aware of Us..."
Very well done Manuel.
I will add it to my Children of the World Theme. I hope you won't mind.

This is just a wonderful live portrait. The empty space seems to meant for a message from the Red Cross or a similar organization.

Beautiful portrait, excellently done, great crop - the best shot today. As for me, I don't think you needed to explain each detail - your photography did the job on its own.

Mabuhay Manuel!
I love this picture and I can totally relate to the concept behind the photo. But I am so curious to see the entire face of this beautiful child...
Good work!

We i look on your pictures i can see they have the same style... it is the way how you set ambient light... it is very fine...

Very good composition!
The look, the expression... it captures our atencion!
Great picture!

J'aime beaucoup ce portrait, la composition est très bien réussie. Elle est très bien réussie cette photo.

Great photo. It communicates well what you were trying to communicate.

Wonderful note. Great photo. One of the best at TE.

Excellent!

Can I adopt this lovely child?

Manuel, I love this photo and the way you framed it. it says it all . very touching and sensible. How did your presentation go?

What a perfect framing you have here , i like your way of croping the boy here , and the other things ,sharp, clors, look of the boy and DOF all is great.. well done

incredible. wordless.

hi manny
i think your photograph is very good
though i won't say that it tells the story of displaced people, but there is something very nice oozing out of this kid. this is a very very warm photograph and makes me feel like your heart was in it when you were taking the photograph. there isa need for more photographs like this

If you have the time, you should go back and doa serious study of the Aeta, both photos and some information about them, and have an exhibition in Bangkok and maybe in Manila. You've framed this very well - in fact there's nothing I can see to impove here.

Your photos exhibit not only creative vision and skillful craftsmanship, but a mature appreciation for the human condition, as witnessed by this powerful photograph. You used your production skills to perfection in conveying an important message. I can't imagine a change that would improve it. Thank you very much for sharing your vision.

Very sensitive! The defused light is doing a great work here.
I'm not entirely sure about the crop from above though, pressing the figure.

Hi Manuel, I like it just the way it is. Smart shot, and you get a very nice effect by not putting the boy's face in the centre.. it's a great pic. Indeed, the white of the sand (I'm glad you told us it was sand, I'd never guessed) looks good in contrast with the dark skin. The way he leaves his mouth open, and the runny nose on top.. it's all innocence. Muy bien.

cheers sarah

Hi Manny, I love your composition, and the expression on the boy's face, but the noise is a bit distracting to me, and I also think I little more contrast might help. I did a workshop; hope you like it!

Thanks for sharing!

Erin

Hi Manny,

I have always been stunned each time I saw the pictures that you took. The meaning behind the pictures can be clearly understood by myself as I have been there to the Philippines and have a picture on Children Poverty as well. I think iGirl did a good job on this picture but this one is good enough. Boracay is a very nice place.

Poverty happens everywhere, but it affects our next generation we just feel painful deep inside our heart. If you do not mind I will add my picture to your theme here.

Good One Manny and thanks for passing this message across the world.

Adam
