Photographer’s Note

Taken during the annual Medieval Week in Visby.

The first Stone Age settlers came to the island Gotland about 7000 years ago, and many traces of their dwelling-places can still be seen. In the Middle Ages the town Visby on Gotland played a key role in Baltic Sea trade and once a year one is able to relive that medieval era in Visby.

I only carried a monopod (=one-legged tripod) with me at the tournament and made this picture with the camera on the monopod during a part of the competition when the numerous knights had to use their swords to pick up as many rings as possible.
Due to the slow film and the light circumstances I had to use shutter times longer than 1/45s. With the focus just in front of the rings and a frontal angle I avoided sideway motion and only had to deal with the movement towards the camera.
