The row boat really was red.
In the original photo, the boats were mostly white/gray/pale blue. Near sunset at this marina, the water was gray-blue. So I thought- why not just desaturate the whole background and leave just the red row boat. I did slightly enhance the red using Hue/Saturation in Photoshop.
I admit, the cropping (framing of the shot) isn't great. I didn't like the dock that was on the right side of the photo. |

Hey Sue,
Pretty idea ;). I'd focussed on the little boat a bit more and used a smaller shutter to add depth of focus. The cropping isn't the problem in my opinion ;). More contrast would also be nice, I think...
