Not sure if this guy had toothache or the black strap was part of his headgear. Grabbed this photo while he was sat 1 metre away from me.

Jeff: Nice candid shot.And I was amused by your note. No, neither did the guy have a tootache nor is the blackstrap part of his "headgear". He's wearing a netting that some old-timer Sikhs wear in order to "pack-in" their beard. Unfortunately, these nettings do not match beard colours and I have seen them only in black. That's ok for guys with black beards. But seniors with white beards really should not be using the black nettings. It looks comical. Good shot.
