In a man's world she has to prevail up to survival as no social security will provide any facility nor in healthcare neither for pensions to the so many simple people. Besides her task to be a mother, giving birth to new life, taking care of her family .... she supports her husband, serving him in his shadow as a dedication to him.
In fact she is the silent motor in Indian society that would stagger without her.
This mirror to honour the vital task of an Indian woman.
A shot taken in the quarry of Elephant Rock.

I like you post this photo because we often forget and even not so traveller people dont know that hard works are mainly done by women in some countries. The same happen in Latin American, and this without taking in consideration the home labours... About the photo, Henk you compensate very well her physical effort with the bags behind her (reminding us at the same time she probally has a house to direct too). Take care.

This is awesome. She is strong and beautiful and very much a woman. The moment is very captured with her movement so well captured. I really like this composition with her bag and the vessel behind her. The colors all coordinate well.
This examplifies very well the following saying "Behind every successful amn there's a strong woman"

wow, this is awesome daily life action shot, henk; and great title - fitting the message of the image perfectly; great colours, sharpness, and saturation; very impressive photo;
maciekda (19895) 2005-07-15 4:48
very nice photo Henk, very well composed, those 'bags' are really well placed in the corner of the frame, the hammer is in the opposite corner. and of course the scene is very strong - a older woman working with a hammer in a quarry - hard life. very good work.
only the post-processing is a bit too strong - too sharp and I don't see any shadows.

Great photograph on an important topic. Thanks for drawing our attention to it. As for a technical note, the colours are vibrant and have great saturation. Good dynamic composition. Nice job!
All the best,

Well, as they so often and eloquently put it themselves, nothing much. Excellent compo, and timing here.

As usual Henk, Your view is so impressive. I would have never thought of taking a picture of this women. Quite saddening since I know their pain.
weswang (18223) 2005-07-15 12:29
Hi Henk, I would ask the same question when I see the lady work like a man. What men do there? I guess men should do something, may be cooking and taking care of kids?
A very well captured picture with very nice color contrast and clarity. The intensive hard working is well depicted on her face. Well done.

Great shot Henk. I have tried so often to take a picture like this, of the women labourers on the roads and bulding sites of India, but have never managed to successfully capture action as well as you have done here. Often if they see you trying to take a photograph they will signal you to go away or turn their backs to you, so I know how difficult it is to capture something like this. The framing is perfect in my view. The only flaw, as Maciej has pointed out, is the halos around the right arm and urn, caused no doubt by the PP. David

Powerful image, Henk! Very good note also. I applaud your ability to get so close to your subject and yet not influence her nature posture.
sarju (5324) 2005-07-15 17:42
very colourful clothes of this lady that are blanced with the colourful basket and the container on the other corner ... rest of the image pretty much dull landscape
Great work with this composition composition
Cheers .... sarju

A superb daily life shot from India, with excellent colour, lighting, & sharpness. I like the color coordination between the warm, ambient, colours of the sari, & the 2 baskets on the right. Well seen!

Goed weekend Henk,

i know that women are the big workforce in most countries.. while travelling in africa, i had the same thoughts! what would be africa without women.. men seem so lazy!
kevinos (7517) 2005-07-16 8:12
A very nice picture, with interesting composition. The colour of the woman and her lunch, to the right, are very dramatic against the cool colour of the stone. It's a great tribute to the strength and tenacity of the Asian woman. Regards Kevin

Het is duidelijk aan deze vrouw te zien dat het geen licht werk is dat ze aan het doen is. Erg goed vastgelegd met een goeie DOF en een erg sterke compositie. Heel mooi gedaan!
sergecross (3438) 2005-07-16 18:06
Henk, good one, perfect shot. I like the poetic scene inside it and the composition. The background is great and i like the bags at back. Congratulations!

Good note. As in many societies (including our own) women are not fully recognized. Of course in countries struggling with economical problems this is a more serious matter. Very good framing. Her placement near the left border is very good, opening space to the background. The bag and pot, in similar colors of the clothes establish a very interesting connection with her.
robiuk (10807) 2005-07-18 17:56
Absolutely true and very strong photo, Henk!
Beautiful compo with personal belongings placed in the lower right corner symbolising her role at home & family.
These women deserve much more than such a hard labour!

Fine notes and a true! Fantastic enquadrement of a moment very well captured of a daily life scene. Great colors, contrast and also a importaht title. All in a great and fine composition.
everlasting (15374) 2005-07-24 3:55
A strong composition, Henk with great timing. I was surprised after readign the previous comments here of how many were unaware of the hard manual work many women in (third world) countries, must endure. But thats what TE is all about isnt it?
coco (30439) 2005-10-27 10:20
Hard work and interesting note.
Women have, always, a very hard work. They have all the work of the family and they, in many countries, also have the more hard and strong works.
Meanwhile, in the rich countries where the work of men and women is the same, still they have different pays (more important for men).
Important remember and, at the same time, coul be a nice tribute.
And not only this: a good photo. Excellent composition. And even if Maciekda is right: excellent.
