Photographer’s Note
Who can resist photographing flowers? We probably all have many color photos of them. My wife has nursed her hardy hibiscus plant for years and years, bringing it in the house every fall before the first frost and taking it outside again every spring. It always rewards her with one or a few lovely, intensely red flowers.
I couldn't get my camera to autofocus exactly where I wanted, so I made this shot of the business end of the flower by setting my Pentax Optio 750Z on manual focus at the shortest distance and then moving the camera until I saw the focus I wanted on the LCD.
The background is the wooden deck/porch behind our house, partly shaded by trees. There are a few green leaves on the deck that appear as green splotches.

Gorgeous composition- if in a store I would buy a large version and let it adorn a living room of my house. A conversation piece as well as an appreciation of our natural coinhabiters.

I really like the unique POV and selective focus. If it were my photograph, I'd blow it up and hang on the wall. It's striking.

Superb closeup Alan. I tried taking a flower in closeup only to get blurred because of the breeze. Subject is very well focussed.
