Photographer’s Note
This is another shot I took at Sands End near Whitby and I have given it a softening effect as I did with my last one. Although the effect gives a darkness to the cliffs in the background I still feel the picture as a whole has a certain quality about it which makes you want to look at all the elements. This inclusion of people on the beach was quite deliberate as I think it adds to the lonely feel. I have tried both the image with no effect and without and prefer the treated image. I have posted the unaltered image as a workshop. Let me know which you prefer.

beautiful picture Anne, I love those saturated and vivid colors, the light is magical. interesting post-processing. the photo in WS looks more natural, this one is more surreal. very nice

I like the contrast between the bright sea, houses and beach and dark cliffs

I think I prefer the picture without the effect Anne; the effect makes it more like a painting and I suppose it depends on what you want. Anyway full marks for showing us both and for the excellent composition.

Well - I like your original very much but I can't say i like your treatment of it any less - it has a wonderful atmosphere - the PP version is much more painterly and quite wonderful in it's depth of colour.
best wishes kev

Hi Anne, I like the appearance of the sea on this photo but overall I think I like the original more. The red is just a bit too much for my personal tastes.

The effect you used is very soothng, almost like a painting! I am not sure which I like better, it is a very pleasant scene and each version has its qualities.
On the altered version I think I would crop a little bit from the top as it is too dark for me and doesnt add much to the photo.

Both good pictures, but I like the first one with the effect. As others have said, it looks like a painting, and this is one of my favourite type of effects. It enhances the colours nicely too, as I prefer brighter colours.

Hi Annie,
Lovely picture - looks like an oil painting. Could imagine it on my living room wall.
