Photographer’s Note
I decided to post this image to commemorate the survival of the suicidal idiot (and fellow Michigan resident) who took a ride down Niagara Falls on Monday. He is the first person without boat, barrel or life jacket known to have survived a fall. Eyewitnesses said he was about 20 feet out from table rock so he would have passed by the spot in the upper portion of my shot.
This shot depicts a Niagara Parks worker taking a cigarette break after cutting the grass within inches of certain death. He is not totally insane, though. It's not obvious from the picture but he is wearing a safety harness. His partner told me that they can pick up the garbage there, come back an hour later and there will be more garbage there. Well at least the stupid tourists keep them employed.
Sorry about the blown out corner which is white from the spray. I need to go back to my negative to see if I can salvage any detail.
This shot doesn't really portray the power of the falls very well (see yannt's shot for a side view below this spot) but it's an eleven-story ride down. Sometimes bodies don't come out for days as they are hemmed in by the falling water currents. Sometimes the bodies come out in pieces. That guy was very lucky indeed.

I agree that the picture is not fit to participate in *the best shot of the year- contest" but on the other hand... it is in the true spirit of TE..and so is the note. Therefore...a big smiley.

This qualifies very well for the theme of "Living on the Edge"
Good Shot!

Not so certain death it seems from the story (but almost)! Fascinating, and I wonder what he does with the cigarette butt, can he resist flicking it into the water? Thanks for posting to the Environment & Everyman theme. Ian

No brownie points for artistic merit but 5 stars for the note and social context!

Not the obvious natural shot of Niagara, but I like it.
Someone has to do the job, those people are the backbone of a country.
Composition is not good, but OK.
The white out corner of the photo proparbly wasn't intended, but it fits into the feeling of sertain death, white heaven in hell ("Lone wolf and cub" series anyone?)
Photo is slightly out of focus but it works well.
Thanks for sharing.
