Bastia, Gateway to Corsica Photo

Photographer’s Note

For many people arriving in Corsica, Bastia will be the entry point, as lots of ferries from both France and Italy target this town conveniently located on the nnorth of the island. Freight will also enter that way to supply the island with what french consumers expect to find in their shops.
Here you can see a general view of Bastia with its beautiful old port to the left, an area that hosts many restaurants and cafes and is very lively at night. For photos it's good to go in the early morning as cafes open, have breakfast there and shoot. On the right the ferries docks, not very busy when I was shooting, you see only one big ferry, but still much place to host more.
Bastia is a very convenient starting point to reach the "Cap Corse" and "Balagne" regions, as well as the south of the island (Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio), the road that runs along the eastern coast is very good.

C'est vrai, ca a souvent été mon point d'arrivée en Corse..mais encore plus souvent ca a été Calvi..encore plus spectaculaire et mysterieux... :-) je vois que durant tes nombreux voyages, tu n'as pas raté la Corse..vaut mieux parce que c'est l'un des plus beauy endroits du monde... ;o)

J'aime bien ton cadrage et toutes ces maisons claires.
J'aime bien aussi cet énorme bateau sur le fond, on voit bien sa grandeur.

Une très belle vue, bien détaillée, colorée, rendant bien l'importance du port ferry, mais aussi du petit, tout est relatif, port de plaisance. Et la ville apparaît imposante, c'est vraiment bien fait! D'ailleurs j'aperçois une terrasse où il doit faire bon prendre l'apéro!

Hi Jean-Yves. A very nice postcard presentation of Bastia with a lot of enchanting detail fit into a single frame. The sunlight falls nicely as it accentuates the marina and buildings at the left, and at the right the embankment walls and ship are good details to balance the overall total. The color balance seems to be lacking a bit of blue in the left half but otherwise this is really delightful.

Hi Jean Yves, what a beautiful place. The scan and post-processing was very well done. The only bummer is the lack of clarity but that's probably weather related. But the colors are nice and warm. Lastly the composition is flawless. Nice shot J-Y!

i remember my visit to Corsica some years ago: i was coming in from Sardegna to Bonifacio. Bastia appear to be completely different, bigger and with more modern buildings.
Nice view, even the haze don't distract too much, and thanks for the informative note!

Ce qu'il y de bien en Corse, c'est que si tu photographies un port, tu es sur d'y trouver un ferry, ils ne bougent jamais :)))
La vue est belle ici avec la ville de Bastia dans sa partie la pus ancienne.

This is a very well taken picture with a nice contrast, clarity, and depth. The color changes in the water, the crowded marina, and the busy city can be seen clearly through this picture. Well done.

Je ne pouvais pas laisser passer cette photo de la ville qui m'a vu naitre sans y laisser deux mots ;o)
Le point de vue depuis les remparts de la citadelle est bien choisi puisq'il permet d'avoir une vue d'ensemble de la vielle ville.
Je trouve juste que l'image est un peu jaune et je me suis permis de faire un petit WS...

Impressive photo Jean.
Beautiful landscape.The almost monochromic colors of the buildings and church make an excellent contrast with the sea.
