Crossing the River Styx to Hades Photo

Photographer’s Note

Old greek mythology said that when you die, to get to the kingdom of death, you must cross the river styx on a boat. Thats why you must have two coins in your eyelids to pay the boatman his fare or else you stay on this side of the world as a ghost.

This story was what I was thinking of when I took this picture in the river going to CHitwan national park.

The silhuete of the boatman and the dead trees floating gave me the image of river styx.

What do you think?

I have reposted it as the original post was one of my first and the size was small.

Funny choice of holiday location Daniel, I'll bet the agent takes a devil of a commission on these trips :-)

jolie composition, qui glace un peu le sang quand on lit ta note ... heureux que tu n'ais pas fait le voyage de l'autre côté ... joli cadrage, belle succession de plans. j'aime bien le sujet en ombre chinoise, qui amene un petit côté mysterieux.

i know that myth, and the picture should be very rapresentative of that...perhaps with a darl b/w!
but talking about the image, is very nice, with an amzing light and soft tones.
the pov is excellent!

l'image correspond bien à la note, c'est vrai qu'elle fait un peu pur cette embarcation à contre jour. dommage que la tête de l'homme soit coupée par les branchages derriere; sinon c'est une bonne photo avec une ambiance de fin du monde.

Très belle ombre qui semble glisser. la position du piroguer imprime le mouvement. C'est élégant.
J'aime aussi les niveaux qui ont creusé la berge.

very nice mood and colours, you're right about a title ;)

I think you could improve it slightly (while taking) if his head didn't mix with branches there, but it's anyhow very interesting shot

La silhouette et les arbres morts cadrent bien avec l'idée du Styx. La rivière est trop lumineuse pour correspondre à l'idée que je me fais du Styx. Quoiqu'il en soit la photo est très évocatrice et ce rameur plein de mystère.

I like both the mystic picture and the old greek mythology you offered.
More than that, your posting has corrected my concept that Nepal is country on high elevation without lake or river...

I've got the idea of visiting Kathmandu. Could you give me some advice about transportation inbound from Delhi and outbound to Lhasa, please?

For some reason I seem to often topple over your pictures when I am just randomly clicking on images at TE... I like the atmosphere which this picture creates and the different shades of blue are especially attractive. I also think that the photo is not entirely clear gives it a nice effect (even more mystical). The format is perfect - almost panoramic but not entirey...
