[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
These are the Kelso Dunes, in the eastern Mojave desert, in California near the Arizona border. They are one of a few dunes around the world that exhibit the mysterious phenomenon of "booming", meaning that they produce low rumbling sounds, like thunder, or tympani, in the far distance. The sound is somehow related to the movement of sand in constant small avalanches, but is not well understood by scientists.

This is nice although I would have preferred a wider sky. The idea of the little object in the inmensity of the desert is a good one and well realized, and it is not always easy.

Very nice composition, well seen. Really effective in B&W.

Dramatic and engaging photo, Ken. The branch makes a wonderful leading line. It is delightful that such wonderful light is in the mountain, too!

A simple little jewel of a shot Ken, nice full bodied tones, a nice deep foreground with the strong diagonal lead in combined with the gentle curve of the false horizon.
Nice shot

Great shot Ken!

Fantastic choice for B&W, to accentuate the composition. At first glance it almost looks as thought the horizon is slightly off- but on further examination it's "spot on". Well done Ken, a great shot!
