[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have posted this picture for two reasons;

This picture represents the culmination of a dream. A moment that I had daydreamed about since a child, resulting in a trek through jungle scraping and cutting arms, at times crawling, heart beating excitedly, finally emerging to this scene.

Estimates place the world's mountain gorilla population somewhere just over 700. In the wild they are limited to two small areas, one in Uganda and the other straddling Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The portion of the second part that lies in Uganda is known as the Mgahinga National Park.

Access to the gorillas is carefully controlled. In Mgahinga only 6 people can visit each day and contact with the gorillas is limited to 1 hour. Visitors are accompanied by 6 armed escorts and trackers and the group may trek anything up to 8 hours to find them.

Just over 6 months ago this gorilla and it's family disappeared from Magahinga. It was feared that they were taken or poached. A couple of weeks ago they reappeared..... so this photo is a celebration as well.

Hi Karina !
Incredible shot ! well done.
I imagine it wasn't easy to shot this gorilla !
The picture is little bit too blue, but it doesn't matter.
Regards
Bertrand

Maravilhosa esta foto.
Um belo colorido. A expressao desse macaco é muito bonita. Dá ate vontade de pegar no colo!

Hi Karina,
A nice composition with the gorilla surrounded by the leaves. A cozy nest for a rest. I love the details and clarity of this shot and the amount of green is just enough not to be overpowering. Thanks and regards.

Hi,
AHHhhh....look at her(him), isn't she(he) a cutie? Sleeping like a beauty. So cuddly.
Very emotional shot indeed....knowing that they're being taken or poached.
At least, this little beauty is safe and sound.
Thanks for sharing.

A great shot Karina. The light, I am sure, was very difficult, and I am astonished how close you could get to the gorilla.
Even better is the note. What an experience!
I am gland that they survive.

Hi Krina, This is a valuable photo. It is unusual to catch a gorilla photo in the wild. It is even more valuable to know the story about them. You have done a excellent job in capturing the picture, a clear well focused with all details and sharpness picture. Well done.

Hello Karina. Congrats on being able to do something you had always wanted to do. It looks to be the experience of a lifetime and well worth it. I like how you've framed it in all of the leafy vegetation. Nice job Karina, and congrats!

Hi Karina,

Hello Karina
A hearty congratulations for this accomplishment. I think I would have forgot to raise the camera due to excitement, but you pulled it off. Truly a rarity that you have captured and a big thanks for sharing. One of the true reasons for this site is for such a picture. Beautiful animal, well captured and framed!
KUDOS!!!
Brendon

Great shot. Unfortunately I visited the gorillas in Bwindi before the digital age (well, it had begun but I wasn´t on board) and from the one roll of ISO 400 pushed to 800 that I shot, I didn't really get one "keeper". You on the other hand have got a stunner here. I love the contrast of the red flower with the almost blue sheen of the gorillas fur.

I would personally have cropped from bottom and left to get the gorilla more centred though. Well done!

Well captured image and great note to go along with it. The image itself is just a little dull but who cares, am very envious as this is a lifetime ambition of mine.

Two thumbs up for this shot, considering the challenge to track and find threatened species in jungles. The colors are very vivid and attractive as well.
Congratulations for having realized your dream Karina!

Thành.

Beautiful shot and fantastic story to go along with it. Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Karina,
