He is doing what people here call "dressing" the catfish, which is really more like undressing it. He hung it on the hook to facilitate removal of the skin and internal bits.

I actually grew up in this part of Tennessee and i'm here visiting now. That's why I haven't uploaded many photos recently. I also have no photoshop :(

Every April there is a catfish festival here with a parade, a carnival, lots of small town beauty queens, and of course a fish fry tent with all the fried catfish you can eat. I've heard rumors that funding the festival is starting to be a problem and this might be the last year for the Fish Fry. It would be a shame. It's about the only thing that makes this small town unique.

Beautiful composition and very interesting note. I only regret we don't see "more" of the fish.

this is a really excellent picture! I love his expression, his hat, the details of the fish and the baling wire and the red and yellow box and the two patterns, one behind him and one on the wall to his right. it's a bold composition and also very sharp, which is nice. it's got a really real feeling; he's not posing. i want to see lots more of your tennessee pictures!

Very good picture. I love the subject, I love the simmetry and the contrast of light and dark.
My compliments.

P.S. It is true! Italian don't like catfish.
But that is subjective taste, isn't it?

Interesting subject, the way they "dress" the catfish. nice looking granpa, looks more like a cowboy then a fisherman.
Compositionwise, maybe a bit too much of the metal wall. I would cut off all the grey part and this would place the fish in a better position, in the right third of the pic.

A true Tenessean! :) Love the hat. Interesting composition. He seems very cramped in the composition but I like it. I wish I could go to that festival! I love catfish. Mostly Thai style (grilled) but fried is good too. I'll stop rambling on now. Nice photo. JP

Hi Emily
Nice composition. This man is Reagan ? ;o
I like the placement of the man and the large place on the right. Nice daily life shot.
It's well done

Bertrand

great picture, especially all of the contrasting -- the white panelling contrasted with the shadows behind the gentleman and his white teeth contrasted with the shadows covering his eyes.
