I do not find the early spring scenery in the prairie particularly friendly towards the landscape photographer, because it consists of various nuances of more or less washed out brown. But with a new lens in hand, I needed to find something, and in the light of the sunset everything looks warmer. After playing around these hay bales for a while, I ended up being chased away by the 16 year old land owner, with the warm words "What's going on!? This is trespassing. You're on MY land". Oh well, hopefully I didn't cause too much damage by walking up and down the field...

whoa
thats a nice shot Roland
very good Prairies shot
how do you get such a nice colors ... I always have a problem in getting saturated colors in the fading sunlight ... besides underexposing my shots by 2/3 points ... i really don't know what else people do ... did you use some filter or something for this shot
your feed back would be much appreciated
Greetings from the capital by the way
cheers

Nice shot Roland, good thing the farmer didn't take a shot at you or you could have ended up with a very colourful backside!

Fantastic shot with great lighting. Nice sky and good compo.

Good play on perspective, and original location. I like the fact that this landscape is based on man-made element, agricultural field, especially the huge rolls of hay. The horizon seems slightly lopsided, maybe an impression caused by the rolls. Although quite natural still, the light is a bit strong on the foreground one. All the same, good effort.

Nice shot. I like the strong contrast in the haybails. Cheers Robin

It would be a splendid poster on my wall. Warm colors, a beautiful sky, a perfect composition with the diagonal of rolls of hays that lead the eye towards the infinite. I'd print this picture and give it to the owner: I think he will permit you to stay on his land forever.

Very nice landscape and quality!! Lovely inspired, very well done!

wonderfull shot, full of litle sharp details, this ligne give perspective and deepness to the picture, golden colors are wonderfull, well contrasted, it's a really good work

I'm glad the landowner didn't catch you earlier. A very arresting ;o) shot made more so by the apparent tilt to the left. But wonderful oversaturated colours. I've heard of the gravy train is this perhaps the hay train? ...
Cheers
Peter

Hi Roland,
yes, it's a classical shot but it works always very well.
Very good composition, the warm colors are beautiful.
Very good DOF, too. Well done !

this shot deserved all the risks you have taken !
the warm evening light is really beautiful, giving a golden tone to the grass, contrasting well with the blue sky. nice dof and pov.
Vanessa

This is an amazing shot, Roland! The depth of field is perfect, colors of the sky beautiful. I think it is a little bit tilted to the left, but it's o.k. Good job!
regards,
Grzegorz

Hi Roland, This is a really impressive photo. The perspective view of the hays made this photo beautiful. The blue sky with the colorful cloud made this photo like a well designed painting. An excellent composition, an excellent picture.

Wonderful picture, very warm and a great perspective, nice point of view, Roland !

Jolie photo Roland !
Une très belle lumière sur ces ballots de paille.
Felicitations !
Nico.

Good evening Roland!
This is a very artistic composition. Nice perspective of the hay bales. Great light and fantastic sky. Thanks for posting
regards ziggy

Don't farmers get upset over nothing, probably thought your were going to steal his hay :)

Nice composition and warm tones, great sky. I think I will have to get one of these polarizing lenses, they obviously have great effect. TFS

Despite the young farmers warm words, which I think also contained some who begins on F and some on D, you made a great job and got a really colorful shot here.

The sunny bales caught in the late afternoon gives a really warm feelin together with a wonderful sky it's really colorful. Then you added a really deep compo into the shot. with the skills you have n photographing you don't have to worry about any season you deliver great shots anywy.

Very well done Roland

Roland! This is amazing, this is the first try with this Lens? Everything looks fine for me, the DOF is amazing and the colours simply wonderful.

See the bright side of the history, a 16 years old boy is always nicer that a bunch of pitbull or rotters ahaha

Well Done,
Mario

Roland, an impressive landscape. Congratulations, and keep them coming. Matt

Without a doubt this is one of your finest postings, Roly. The hay and grain are sharp without graininess, the lighting superb, the POV and DOF awesome. The interesting texture of the newly mown field, the golden colour contrasting with the sky - a remarkable capture...Something tells me you may stick with your 20D, as will I. Regards.

Oh well,
I thought only people in Scarborough are paranoid..
Hi Roland, excellent warm colours here and what I like the most is that the top edge of these bails is almost totally leveled with the horizon line.
I find similarities with my last pic...
Robi

Good perspective shot with a wonderful sky that adds character to the composition
No points left today!

A lot of shots of this haye-rolls but this one is a good other view for the POV perspective view and the deep colors well balanced here, and what a beautiful sky here !
Very well done Roland
Greetings
Henk

Hi Roly! These hay bales withstood the winter pretty well! The golden hues are gorgeous! One of those days, and one of those skies to celebrate! This is the quintessential prairie photo! Well done! Thanks, Linda

The light on the bales of hay and the perspective that they create are both excellent, Roland. I also like cloud the pattern in the clouds also seems to head towards a distant point. Beautiful colours. Well captured.

Wooow I'm at a loss of words, so I'll just add it to my faves and go on my merry way.

Colour, light and composition are more than correct. Are good. But even more than this.
Is a great photo. The perspective created in the land with the hay bales is very nice. Well done.

Hi Roland, very nice to hear from you and feel so warm that you still remember me. I was not in a mood doing any photography thing for more than half year. Right now I settle down my job in Boston and fully back to my hobby.

My last post is my very early and immature work. I post it to see how bad it is. I remember you suggest me to take advantage of the post size, I will listen to you this time and do my best.

By the way, this is great work. Might be best of your so far. The depth, the detail are first-rate. Sky is really fantastic. Congratulation.

Wow wow oh so nice to have this one in your portfolio Roland. In BC we have to plastic wrap all our rolls to prevent them from rotting out. This has no flaws in it to improve which makes this the best shot I have seen today. Very nice work Roland.

The detail in the clouds and in the bales is great. The color- very true and natural. Excellent exposure here, nothing overblown or under exposed. and the composition is great.

Beautiful angle. The rolling grass really creates a design for this shot. The PL you apply is very effective to bring out the subject.

Hi Roland,
I am very pleasured to see that I am not the only one who like hay bales! I posted many pictures showing them from Italy to Canada they are not very different.
Regards.
Francesco.

Wow! Good effective results for your new wideangle!

Hello Roland,

Love the leading lines of the hay bales and the clouds. The farmer should have been more patient - but warm light is terrific.
