Women and children in a temple waiting for the 'prasad' after being offered to God.

As the kalpavriksha, or the tree that fulfils the desires of mankind, the coconut palm plays a significant role in Indian community life. The coconut or nariyal, is used on all auspicious and religious occasions, be it birth, marriage, buying a new house or car or at the opening ceremony of a new company or firm. It signifies prosperity and is offered in temples as a symbol of the completeness of life.

According to myth, in bygone ages, all the seers used to sacrifice a goat in order to ward off evil forces during their religious rituals. As time passed, this practice of animal sacrifice became obsolete and religious rituals became non-violent. The coconut, called shrifal or the fruit of lustre, replaced the sacrifice and has since become a motif in India’s cultural life. Legend also decrees that the coconut is the primary fruit of the earth. It is likened to the head of Brahma, the creator of the universe.

it's a beautiful photograph ashit
it has the feeling of some of raghu rai's colour photographs.
it's just a pity that the wide angle distortion on the standing woman on the left is making her look a little like a cartoon character with a huge head on a small body than a person.

on the plus point i really like the 2 hands coming into the frame on the bottom left and the little girl being the only one looking at you and with that pose of hers.. her presence is really nice ( she seems to be asking "what the hell do you think you're doing?" .. you know.. in the way young kids do"
take care :)

On top of your subject, really tight, recognizing the coconut that they can smash on the ground splashing open to offer and to bless, you see that in temples on the streets by companies .... a perfect subject on his own.
Nice focussed on this typical evenment with an extra of that plaesant gaze of that one girl ...
The note is written very Indian, accurate. It could use some simple translation for who is not so familiar with these traditions, now a bit mysterious.
Excellent subject nicely captured in compo and flamboyant red colors.

very nice angle you chose in this one Ashit. The colors, as usual, are simply wonderful. They make me want to travel to Gujarat..
the pose of the little girl is really a great capture as well.
Very nice

this is a great POV, great expressions and a great composition.
its just superb. four different expressions on four different faces make this shot very special i think.
bw.

it is a nice photo Ashit, very complex composition, but not messy - it takes some time to realise it. i like those hands in the corner, and of course that girl looking at you is great. lots of colors.. very nice work

Excellent colors and unusual pov. a busy shot and lots to keep the eye occupied. love the look on the little girl looking straight into the camera. very nicely done ashit.

Bertrand

Good POV and excellent colors Ashit,
I like the little girl in the middle
Great photo

You can really see the sweet expectations of the children, for their sweets. I really like the angle in which the picture is taken. I love prasad...

Good shot. I love the composition here and the expression of the sassy girl...

for me my only complaint is that the contrast and saturation seems too high -- the colours kinda hurt my eyes!

no problems with the wide angle: i don't mind a bit of distortion, in fact i find it interesting. on the whole, nice catch.

nice pov and funny face expressions on that shot. there is a lot of activity going on around this coconut, left at one angle of the image. I love the colorful saris.
Vanessa

Nice and unusual perspective - the wide angle distortion is OK for me but it is perhaps a little borderline - very interesting and informative note - I love the girl's expression and the counterpoint of the focus of what is happening on the ground!

You can imagine a lot of the photographers that have responded to your image having a field day with the colours of Gujarat!
