Photographer’s Note

Point Venus is where Captain Cook first made landfall in Tahiti. Its name comes from the fact that Cook and the astronomer Charles Green observed the planet Venus passing in front of the sun, in 1769.
Point Venus is the Northern-most point on the island of Tahiti. The lighthouse located on this black sand beach was built in 1867 by Robert Louis Stevenson's father. It continues to operate today.
It is possible to see le double pointed Orohena mountain, the highest of the island and of the whole archipielago (2241 meters).
