Photographer’s Note
Here's another cheezy horse picture from Vargön (see the previous one). For this one I went for more natural tones, the only adjustments here are basically trying to get those tones from the scanned version (my scanner isn't calibrated) and some increased contrast to make the horse a little blacker, otherwise the photo would have been all grey.

Dramatic and scary feeling! I like the gradient change from black to white, it leads the viewer from the bottom into the horse silhouette and to the trees in fog.
Great exposure Simon.

it does have a "weird" feeling makes me wonder what is going to happen to that horse..., i like it, like the contrast and tones, the mist, the faint trees in the BG and I love horses...
good work!!!

Nice one Simon - a very atmospheric picture - I find the frame a little heavy - I'd go for a fine black lne and a white border - your darker ones just bleed into the frame - a lovely tonal range in the pic though.

Very moody image. The high constrasts and the faint grey tones through the smoke give an eery feel to your beautiful composition.
Bravo Simon.

Wonderful job here, Simon - well spotted, very well captured and very good PP work = excellent composition. The position of the horse relative to the black area of the ground is perfect.

Powerful post in B&W.
The mist and the trees in the BG with the single horse, makes a feeling of being singled out.
Good job.

Great use of ""b&w"", Simon. ;-)
Phantastic transition from black to white. Very well seen.

Effectful, graphic presentation of the horse in this filed with all the mist. Good placement of the details, perfect choice to use the bw. Nice one simon.

Misty atmosphere, very well given. Simple elements, but with a good disposition...I like it .

Really good, a bit sad to him all alone in the field but for that even more interesting.
Great job.

i love to see the mist coming up form the earth.

Hi Simon
I like this picture very much
I like that the dark shades on the left change to lighter shades on the right side
I like the mist effect here and the calmness of the horse all by him self very mystic
And the 3 trees on the left just coming throu the mist
Very good composition
Well done

This is even better than the previous one, Simon. It's a splendid composition and it is just excellent in B&W. The light, the lifting fog, the barely visible fence and the faint trees - all a perfect surrounding the peacefully grazing horse. Format and frame are also much better - more harmonic. All together it's simply marvelous. Very well done!

A wonderful fairy-tale kind of setting captured in this one, Simon, with the fog hovering above the field. The horse is well positioned in the frame, and the almost invisible three trees at the left are well incorporated, too. Good work on the contrast, and the almost-b&w contributes greatly to the atmospheric result. Well done.

Such a desolate scenery. There are only half-tones here - only a hint of trees, a hint of fence, an outline of horse. The mist steals real shapes of things. Moody picture.
Just great.

Another great image of these horses. The hard contrasts which turn almost everything into silhouettes and the fog create a mystical atmosphere. Very interesting and unusual placement of the horse in the frame. Also like a lot the dim trees seen in the background filling that area with some discrete details.

Hi Simon,
Again I am out of town, but I found a moment for the internet, and also another to go and look at fellow photographer's images. I found this incredible image of a horse in the fog. For me it could make a poster for a movie.. It moves people and makes them think. Good work Simon - Izzet
PS. I will start sending my new pictures of New York City soon.

Simon, this is a real thought out dream shot! I really like this feeling of being alone in the mist with a powerful and graceful creature to look at. Cheers

Really nice *almost* B&W-catch you've got here. Really like the fog, gives a wonderful atmosphere. I can almost touch the serenity and silence in this one, as dense as it is. ^_^
If you've got access to Photoshop, you could try playing around with duotones, could yield quite good results.

Hi Simon,
Nice b&w picture. The fog and the blurred background gives the shot an interesting impression of loneliness and timeless. Well seen and postprocessed.

Beautiful rural landscape. Positon of horse and fog that rise from the ground gives us feeling of incoming spring.
