History of Maurepas
Let us pass over more than 300 years of Roman activity(occupation) and on the multiple invasions which punctuate then the history of our region, to stop(arrest) us in the VIIIth century, at the time of the Norman invasions.
The lands of Malrepast belong then to the abbey of Holy Denis. In front of Norman danger, the abbot decides to give up the châtellenie to a family of the soil, capable of defending(forbidding) her(it) effectively. This family takes then the name of its village, whereas the farmers group together(include) around the house of Malrepast. Gradually, the ancient(former) wooden house is replaced by a stony castle, more to resist to the invasions, to the plunders or to the fires.

:: The donjon, which we know even today, twenty metres high and of seventeen metres in diameter, dominates then the new house.
After the war of 100 years ( 1346 ), Malrepast has to leave their lands which are got back by a Lord being engaged(surrendering) in the robbery: Haymon de Massy. The place so remains bandits' den until 1432, date in which the castle is taken by the English, who will leave it only some ruins.
The ancient(former) house of Malrepast passes then in the hands of various families: the family of Chevreuse, that of the duke of Etampes, or still that of the cardinal of Lorraine...

:: Under the administration of King Soleil, Maurepasiens contributes to the embellishment of Versailles by channelling waters of the city, intended to feed the ponds of the castle versaillais of Louis XIV. In 1691, on order of King, the village is set up as county and granted to Louis Phélypeaux, chancellor and Lord Chancellor of Louis XIV
The small son of Phélypeaux, fallen in disgrace with the eyes of Louis XV, will know an exile of 25 years, when he will dedicate to the management of his lands. Jean-Frédéric Phélypeaux becomes then Mister de Maurepas. Called back(reminded) by Louis XVI, his exile comes to an end and he becomes a president of council of State. He(it) will serve King up to his(its) death, in 1781.
On the eve of the Revolution, Phélypeaux having died without descent, it is the duke of Cossé-Brissac who becomes the new Lord of Maurepas.
:: In the XIXth century, the period of relative calm which follows upon the confusions of 1789 allows the daily life to get organized around some 275 inhabitants whom counts Maurepas in 1828. The municipality chooses the post office which is going to harm(serve) her(it), it will be that of Trapdoors. In 1834 an elementary school is created. In 1852, the opening of the railroad line Paris-Chartres allows the maurepasiens to go to sell their products to the market of Versailles.
