Photographer’s Note

The Brabantse Biesbosch nowadays is a beautiful nature revere and it is also a recreation area for everyone. Of course this area has a history. How was this area originated. One thing is for sure, more than 600 years ago there were villages and towns where the water is now.

The history

The Biesbosch came into existence in 1421. A combination of natural and human influences such as water and wind, fishery and aquaculture ( rush, reed and low-willow grounds), duck decoys
and agriculture created the shape and appearance as we know it now. The triangular partition of De Biesbosch was created by reclaiming of land and
digging the river "New Merwede" and "Bergsche Maas". All together it took almost six centuries to create The Biesbosch as it appears in the new
millennium.

The Biesbosch is now a nature reserve. That means that the Biesbosch is a protected area. The Biesbosch is also a recreation park. The Biesbosch is not only a recreation park and a nature park but also an area where drinking water is extracted from the ground for a big part of the Randstad (Hollands most crowded residential area). During the Second World War the Biesbosch played an important part in transporting goods from occupied Holland to free Holland. To this purpose special routes better known as crossings, were found. The people who travel between occupied Holland and free Holland are called line crossers. Fancy a ride from occupied Holland to free Holland in 1944.

In 1970 De Biesbosch was closed-off from the sea by a dam which was constructed in the main outlet called "The Haringvliet" and changed from a
brackish estuary into a fresh water wetland. From the original tidal difference of approximate 2.50 meters only 0.30 metre was left in the Dordt
area with carries the name of "Dordtse biesbosch". A wealthy flora and fauna have developed since.

Like in other countries, in 1980 legislation took place in the founding of National Parks. Also De Biesbosch was to be detonated to be one, and in 1994 it got its official status of National Park. The National Park "De Biesbosch" covers an area of 7.100 ha. There are 3 zones named after the topographical situation: "The Brabantse-, The Sliedrechtse-" and "The Dordtse Biesbosch". The
Dordtse Biesbosch" covers 1.000 ha. And is one the most of this National Park. Together with the other two it is it one of the few remaining fresh
water tidal areas in Europe. Because of its natural beauty and its rarity the main parts of the "Dordtse Biesbosch" are closed off and are prohibited to the general public.

I am one of the photographers on this side who hate it when there is nois. And very quickly I go to Neat to remove that noise. Now I bought a new camera and the first thing I noticed was that the orginal photo of this canon is so much better then the fuji 7000. So I used here no Neat, I hope you like the result of this painting.
