Sunset on the Potomac Photo

Photographer’s Note

This photo was taken on rocks in the middle of the Potomac River with Harpers Ferry West Virginia to the left and the C&O Canal in Maryland on the right. The image was exposed at sunset looking upstream with a tripod to capture the water motion with Fuji Velvia film with no filters or manipulations other than levels and sharpening.

The motion of the water looks soo nice and magical especially with that purple color. This photo is filled with colors, I love it, it's beautiful!

Spectacular shot, Peter. Unusual, surreal lighting on the water adds to the drama. I have just made the switch to digital, but your Fuji Velvia take here has me thinking nostalgically of slides. Good exposure.

God bless velvia! What wonderful colors. The blurring of the water is perfect, not too smooth--plenty of texture but enough blur to give the sense of motion. Excellent shot.

Great colors in the sky combined with the motion in the water caused by a slower explosure but not too slow to avoid the water to be over smooth.

Very nice colors. You also have a very nice framing of the pic that nicely shows the river and hills in the distance. The sky is nice too. The silhouettes have a nice effect on the shot. Nice scanning and post processing as well. Did you have a nice ND filter on this? Nice work and nice shot.
