Photographer’s Note
This was taken at the end of the first day of a camel trek out from Jaisalmer. IMO riding a camel is less fun than it looks. By this stage I could hardly walk (or sit)which did not bode well for the trip back :)
Despite my camel predjudice it was all worth it to sleep out in the open air of the desert. It was absolutely freezing and so everyone had to sleep huddled up together under the blankets that had been placed between the camels and the saddles (It goes without saying that camels also stink and the next day so did we!)
I played around in PS a bit with this one, experimenting with contrast masking. The result is perhaps a bit too heavy.... what do you think?
(Taken with a point and shoot, one of my few surviving photos from India. Pre-digital days so was recently scanned).

Your post-processing is OK for me.
Just a bit pity that the ear of the camel is just touching the frame in the top.
Nice image, as all your portfolio, that I just discovered now, congratulations !

I agree with Yves on this one.. There is something bothering me in the format of the image as well, but I love the scene. I would really love to see more of the camel on the left.. Colors are simply beautiful...
Otherwise i totally share your prejudice about camels...:)

Beautiful sunset, warm colors and nice shadows. May be you are too close from the subjects in foreground.
Nice shot.

I really like the silhouette. Almost a perfect balance. Nice spot on the sun as well. I think it would have turned out a little better if we saw the whole camel. I agree with Cool-Ice on that it's a shame the ear is chopped off. I guess you'll just have to go back and do it again...Ha. Awesome color, great photo.

I believe that with your work you have improved the photo. Very good option the one to increase the backlighting; good composition also, with impressive colors.

Hi Karina, I like the silhouette style looking of this photo. The background riding camel scene made this picture complete. The setting sun and the red sky made the scene beautiful. You have a good area balance between the foreground and background.
Well done.

A photo enchanter, for an experiment which does not seem to have been of any rest! I love the composition of this photograph, with this camel head silhouette. Nice colors too. Cheer!

Nicely done, I like the reins of the camel falling down dead straight and also the slight beaks in the turban and on camel's head, it shows a wonderful relationship between Man and Animal.
Well captured.

Hi Karina,
Nice sunset exercize with beautiful red colors and good use of silhouettes to populate the frame, to my eyes your PP was a success, I like the result, I like too the closer and farther camels that add depth. Just the line above the dunes shows the PP, I think there are techniques to reduce this effect but do not master them either :))
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

I love the composition as well as the scale. The two camels work off of one another as if the motion is implied by their location in the frame. The two vertical lines of the camel's lead also draw the eye up and down; anchoring the entire photo to the dunes.

certainly a wiiner here. Though Too much of PS has lead to bleeding edges, but look at the whole picture, it has got every ingredient to be called a "picture perfect"!

Karina - excellent silhouette - the subject you chose for this treatment has an outline that is instantly recognisable. Two smilies that should I believe take you to 1000!
