Photographer’s Note
This is absolutely not a daily life picture in contrast with the last two that I uploaded. We hardly see ice and snow anymore in winter.
I bike to my work, and a part of the stretch is in this rural environment along this canal, the 'Schie', which runs from Rotterdam to Amsterdam.
This morning was the coldest day of the winter so far, minus 8 degrees (18 Fahrenheit). But the light was so beautiful this morning that I took the cold for granted.
I passed two ships, and then I reached the first ship, the ship that was breaking the ice. I looked for a nice point to take a picture, because I liked the view of the unbroken ice, together with the ship that broke it. The sound was nice as well. The reflections on the ice were really marvellous.
So, I present to you a small Dutch farm, beside a small frozen canal, bathing in the beautiful morning light.

I am always in a moving train when I see this wonderful light of the morning those days... Is it not too dangerous to fiets when there is snow?
Anyway, the reflection, the colors and the foreground are very nice. Well seen!

Oh, yeah, this is typical for today. Ice on the water and a very fierce sun. Oh, it was so cold the last days...
Very nice shot, great light and lovely contrast between warm and cold colours! Well done!

Well, lucky you, Rinie - down here, it was minus 18°C this morning ... Beautiful winter morning light in this photo, with nice reflections yielded by the partially frozen-over canal. The pieces of ice where the boat meets the water are quite telling of the chilly setting. Very nice photo.

Actually I find this compo a bit flat, but a big smiley for the subject, which is really great, and good to see the way it cuts through the ice. I've never seen anything like this. We used to have canal icebreakers in Britain, but they are never used now, since practically all canal traffic is for pleasure, it takes place mainly spring to autumn, and anyone wanting to travel in the winter just waits for the thaw, in the one year in 10 when the waterway actually freezes over. SO this is a regular feature there, maybe I need to visit the Netherlands in the winter.

What a contrast, your last two pictures. But this one is the most actual for the moment. I hate to see this breaking of the ice, if I think of the beautiful skate tour which are destroyed now.
But the frost is, this time also, too weak to bring us real ice.
Beautiful picture with these typical winter colours.

A wonderful light, Yes Rinie. Morning light is often magical. Even more than evening light, then everything is still to do, like this boat breaking the ice. The reflections on the ice are beautiful, and the frozen grass twigs are telling the reality. But the morning sunrays come up to tell the truth, to warm hearts. A very nice catch in warm/cold tones, subtle and well composed. Thanks for sharing.

Hoi Rinie, Great picture taken on just the right moment: we can see the reflection seconds before the boat breaks the ice. Very special.
Groeten,
Paul

This is a fine TE contribution Rinie with wonderful colors and details produced by your G5. I guess when you're riding your bicycle to and from work that carrying your Nikon would be both a burden and quite a risk. But the Canon is a fine choice for this capture. I appreciate your note as well. It is only when looking at photos from around the northern hemisphere that I'm reminded this is winter. Despite the fact we've been having intermittent rain, it is easy to forget when you live in California that others are dealing with cold and snow. Thanks for sharing your snow storm... ;-)

Hello Rinie,
finally arrived in your gallery again, and I must say this last one carried immediatly my attention for the warm piercing morning light on this cold view, a refreshing feeling from here.

It is a pleasant looking morning scene and has that nice contrast of looking warm yet looking cold. I like the lighting here although it is a bit harsh in areas, between the buildings and the boat. Your point of view is also a good one. It reminds me of another shot from your window I believe of a passing ship. Here you have a nice passing by feel. The shore, the clear lines of the canal and the boat just entering into the frame give a good dynamic feel. My eye flows through where the boat would and it almost places me on the water. And it all adds to a nice shot of stopping for a moment and looking out across the water as you head off to work. Nicely done.

Mooie foto Rinie.
De kou straalt er vanaf. Brrrrrr
Je kan ook echt zien dat het ijs spiegelglad is en geeft inderdaad mooie reflecties

Hi Rinie,
What a nice scene to encounter on your way to work, you have taken advantage of the nice mornign light and I can almost hear the crunching of the ice.

Nice shot "Rinie";
Nice feeling in the shot, a good mixture of cold and warmth with the blues and oranges. I think that's really cool that your able to cycle to work. Is cycling quite common in the Netherlands, most people cycle to work etc? Too hot and humid to do that here in Singapore, you'd need a shower every time you got of your bike! Hahaha
Cheers "Rinie", ;-)

Hi Rinie, what a delightful scene you captured here, bathing in the warm morning light! It has been quite a while that we could see this. I like the PoV here and the way the ice breaking ship enters the frame - it's very dynamically composed! ....And you are a tough coockie doing bicycle commuting in winter - admirable ;-)
Great job and have a great day!

A colourfull winter view when so much are almost B&W these days.
The ice splinters in front of the boat are very nice. Hearing them jingling must be nice indeed when riding to work.

Hi Rinie
Superb reflections & sharpness. I like the warm / cold opposition between the blue & yellow. Good saturation & color, too. Well done!

Hi Rinie,
Very good composition. I like the grass with rocks on the foreground of the picture, very nice reflections on the water, very cute buildings lighted on the background. As about snow - for me this scene with snow looks very familiar at the beggining of spring :). Good shot, BRAVO!
With BEST regards,
Arthur
