Photographer’s Note

Japan - China: 3 - 1. Definitely something to be mad about.

It was the final in the asian football cup 2004 between China and Japan at Worker's Stadium, Beijing. Japan won and the chinese fans were of course very disappointed.

This photo is taken from my window a few blocks west of worker's stadium an hour or so after the game. Lots of people waving chinese flags and yelling profanities (that I prefer not to translate) at their own team. My knowledge of mandarin is very limited, but I could here no aggression against the japanese, only anger towards their country men. Judging from the opinion of Beijing taxi drivers it seems like the chinese in general think their team is really bad (which might be true).

Luckily there were no serious inicidents as far as I know, these people scattered after a while.

I had asa 100 film in my camera and couldn't get my tripod close enough to the window, so this is hand-held with some support from the window frame.

Interesting doco photo. I remember I was around there that night and people did seem a bit cheesed off.

interesting picture, interesting scene - Chinese people seem to be very peaceful, seeing riots is sth a bit unusual, anyway, it is a well composed, i like that night light here, nicely done

i love the atmosphere here and technically the photograph is quite good
ironically it reminds me a little bit of this photograph in terms of viewpoint and this one in terms of the mood and the colours
