I am back in Georgia. I came today from Yerevan to Tbilisi by marshrutka. The road was very beautiful, partly in winter, partly in spring.
Here the view of the Presidential Palace and a strange construction that intrigued me when I saw it on Paul's photo. It is still not ready.

bella e originale quella costruzione, non si sa a cosa serve?
In ogni caso, nonostante le forme molto moderne, sembra ben inserita in questo ambiente.

And we also catch a glimpse of the dome of the Tsminda Sameba Cathedral.
So the theatre-showroom isn't still finished but I see that the large crane has already gone.
Only at the leafless trees I can see it isn't yet spring there but it looks like a very beautiful sunny day.
Very beautiful light and colours.
In a few hours I will leave on a holiday. I don't think I will have time to log in on TE. I'm not really addicted ... well, I don't think so.
When I will be back I will certainly look at all your Caucasian pictures.
Enjoy your journey!

The light is the real start of the show here for me. Ideal to bring out the colours and detail in this unusual mix of architecture.

This time you captured the scene in optimal light. I very much like the sunny views with dark rainy clouds in background. Those buildings look quite special with different styles. The boat terminal looks rather styleless compared to background buildings.

There cannot be another person on TE who has travelled more extensively than you! And this is a delightful photograph from your recent trip to Georgia.
The warm late afternoon light has given the colours here a wonderful vibrancy and the Presidential Palace with its white walls and blue dome stands out stunningly against a dark and threatening sky. And, yes, that is a rather strange structure with its big oval window just above the moored boat.
A fine and pleasing composition with gorgeous light and colours, perfect exposure and exquisite details and sharpness.

I also noticed this strange construction on one of Pauls's photos. I don't think they had even started building it in June 2012. Since most extravagant modern architecture in Georgia seems to have been the brainchild of former president Saakashvili it may well be possible that this will never be finished, now that he is out of the country and haunted by prosecutors and new leaders eager for revenge and new priorities. A strange legacy of a former government, below the more traditional President's palace and the new cathedral. This photo has very good light and colours in spite of the dark clouds.

i was disappointed to see that beautiful old city becoming spoilt with kitsch modern architecture. they could build these hyper-structures somewhere near the center, without distracting the originals, but they didn't. this giant, glowing "pipe" is not something to be proud of, imho. nice documentary photo, anyways :)

Attractive Tbilisi scene with the unique tubular metal architecture, and the palace combining modern with classical Greek like temple structure and a beautiful blue dome.
Thanks for sharing,

The sky appears rather dark, providing a dramatic backdrop to the well illuminated Presidential Palace. The photograph has the added quality of freshness, shot and submitted the same day.

How much the ticket to marshrutka from Yerevan to Tbilisi? Another interesting presentation of the city. And this construction reminds me another strange object on the Mur river in Graz. Excellent postcard style, a lot of interesting details.
Greetings from LA!

modern architecture is not my cup of tea but this picture is my cup of tea! It's a nicely composed image and good presentation of the city. TFS!

yes, we've seen some of these subjects before in Paul's photos, and I don't mind at all seeing them again.
just goes to show that an overcast sky is just as nice as a sunny bright sky, perhaps even better.
the light and exposure are so attractive. the silver tones really come through nicely.

The presidential palace looks like a modern building with a classical theme. That tubular building right by the river is something else, though. Do you have any idea what it is?
