Most people know the Grand Canyon National Park in Arizona. Within Yellowstone National Park, there is also a Grand Canyon. The both canyons were created by the incision of rivers. This picture was taken at the end of a trail down to the bottom, an overlook within splashing distance of the rushing river and the waterfall.

Hello, a spectacular view of the other Grand Canyon. You managed to capture the everlasting rainbow that is present there. Nice view and good light.

A very impressive view of the Yellowstone River Canyon, its steep slopes forested where trees are not expected, the rushing whitewater, then the magic rainbow in the foreground.
Usually we see this Canyon from the other end looking towards Yellowstone Falls, your artistic view is simply unique and rewarding.

A fantastic sight over the "second" grand-canyon, apperently the Yellowstone park offers much enthusiasm about nature, and a stunning view you had taken from the "head" of the waterfall.
Collected a marvelous scenery, enriched by the rainbow.
Beautiful and impressive earth.

gran taglio verticale per aumentare l'effetto di profondità di questa meraviglia naturale, con la meravigliosa aggiunta del piccolo arcobaleno a dare ulteriore colore.

Ansel eat your heart out! - A view of artist's point in the Grand Canyon of the YSNP. Magnificent landscape in great depth showing more of the detail and its wonderful variety of stunning colours, tones & textures of formation really come to life. But for me the colour of "yellow stone" works best here and I aslo do like the contrast against the deep blue of the sky and the rainbow is cherry on the cake captured precisely. Superb manage to be proud off! Congrats.

Wow what a lovey view from your high POV. You have perfectly captured the rugged beauty of this canyon. Like the green river making its way through the canyon. It contrasts perfectly with the canyon walls. As for the rainbow you have placed it perfectly in the frame, a inch higher and it would have distracted the viewer from this grand view of the canyon. Excellenty done, thanks for sharing.

Excellent view of this fabulous canyon. I was there, but many, many years back. Beautiful place to visit, I'd say "photographer paradise". I do not know if I ever manage to come back one day.
Very well done
Wish you a very nice rest of the week.

A french expression : A cherry on the cake with the rainbow
Great view, If I was there I'll make a big panoramic picture :)
drweizy (387) 2014-02-28 2:06
very good shot, very beautiful.
but the reasons formating the two valleys you said are different? one mainly by geological fracture/rift vally, and this one in Yellowstone by running water. I am not sure for that.
patpatch (939) 2014-02-28 9:06
What an impressive shot. The vertical crop suits perfectly an adds to the depth. It's a very spectacular scenery.
We can feel the strong of the river in a wild nature.
I plan to go to Yellowstone next year, and ,looking at your picture,I am looking foward to being there .
Very nice capture

Un paysage extraordinaire, magnifique cette rivière entre les rochers, le top avec les couleurs de l'arc en ciel
Royaldevon (23448) 2014-03-06 11:56
Your chosen viewpoint has certainly grabbed the magnificence of the location. The steep sided valley, leading to the river, is given a sense of dramatic scale by the size of the conifers, whilst the anchoring f/g rocks give the sense of depth!
You have given the shot an extra oomph by the inclusion of the rainbow and it conveys information about the rising water particles.
My warm regards,
