I was going through my laptop and deleting old/bad photos, and I noticed my Hawaii gallery.
When I get back from my holidays, I always spend weeks working on the photos and organizing them. For some reason I had forgotten to work on my Hawaii series. There were hundreds of photos just sitting there waiting to be viewed again.
So, I thought I'd take a short break from Cuba, and spend a little time on a different Island :)
Its too bad I've already forgotten what beach this is, but i do know its only a few minutes drive from downtown Honolulu.
Its a 25 second long exposure, and i do remember getting a little frustrated because the spray of the water kept soaking my lens :) But its all worth it in the end isn't it!
When I view these landscapes in my gallery I can't help but think about our dear friend Lisa - she loves these beach scenes, so this one is for you Lisa!
Hope you like it

Splendid picture of the Honolulu coast with nice contrast colors and great effect on the sea. I like a lot!
Have a nice day!

thanks God,you did not delete this one accidentally:)
Just like Lisa I love such scenes and I love long exposure shots,so this one is a real delight to my eyes!
I like also the color scheme of the scene.Delicate, subdued colors creates here really unique atmosphere of this scene and are at least here much more expressive than vivid colors.

Fantastic effect created by the long exposure. The muted colors and light work well to present this wonderful beach scene. Beautiful nature nicely captured through your lens. Thanks for sharing a good photo.

Surely you don't have any bad photos, only joking:-) I like this seascape very much and the use of very long exposure time which turns the sea foamy. The shot is well composed with the distant cliffs making an excellent point for the viewer to focus on. Lovely soft light and understated tones. Fine work.

I can see why this one is dedicated to Lisa Craig; she is the queen of the long exposure and coastal landscapes. This is well managed with some gorgeous soft colour gradations and softly rendered movement in the waves. The rocks look a tad dark on my screen and perhaps the shot could do with a little more detail in the dark areas. A good shot through and definitely a 'keeper'. Warm regards Rosemary

Hi, my friend Craig,
the long exposure time adds a splendid graphical effect on the water, as smoke, and creates a good chromatic contrast between the dark rocks, the white and blue sea, and the cloudy sky.
The weak light of the late afternoon gives a special atmosphere into the composition.
A beautiful work.

C'est vrai que l'on se trouve dans le royaume de Lisa dans cette belle longue exposition. J'aime beaucoup le flou dans l'eau et la belle texture de l'ensemble.Les couleurs de l'eau sont très belles.

nice the seascape view of this section of the sea of Honolulu, with the rocky shoreline to creates depth and perspective in the scene.I like the light and the colour management as the beauty of the image.
adramad (37285) 2014-02-05 8:24
Very nice view of this rugged coastline. result of volcanic eruptions, the cloudy sky adds a touch of drama to this desolate landscape.
As usual, great sharpness and brightness.
Have a good day.
All the best.

I'm sure Lisa will love it. As for me, when I saw the title, I thought I was going to see bikini-clad maidens, but no such luck! Instead we have a rocky coastline, shot in moody overcast conditions, which really works, despite the fact that (or perhaps because) it looks cool and grey. I would never have guessed this was Hawaii.
PS Sounds like you have the same kind of workflow as I do, though as I'm now retired I've got the time to edit to my heart's content!

A low light shot and atmospheric as it adds to the mood and the feeling of 'being there' The framing is spot on with amazing layered depth in limited colours but hint of blue in the sea imho, makes a great focal point. Well done, Congrats

Hello dear Craig,
Another perfect entry in your gallery.
Very good layout.
Long exposure time was a perfect decision, creating a perfect soft effect of the waves.
TFS and best regards

This is not how I envisaged Hawaii and, for that reason, it has a much greater impact. The cool colours are what you don't expect!
However, it is a lovely shot, mystical by its slow shutter speed giving such a soft appearance to the water.
A fine composition where the rocks link well to give depth and balance.
My warm regards,

Ciao e buona giornata.

You had a very good artistic inspiration

Low taken, exactly above the water of the sea.
You froze the water excellent, also the dark rocks care for a nice contrast
You chose an excellent angle with a lot depth and perspective.
Sharpness and colours make these picture beautiful.
Composition and presentation be superb.
Have a nice weekend,
mkamionka (30212) 2014-02-07 7:34
very funny title. I thought about the emka's recent photo, full of ice on the bay -it should be also titled dream vacations or so. As beautiful as this photo is nobody would probably guess that it is Hawaii.
Great effect with the long time exposure in the foreground. I like the slight hint of the green tone in the water nearer the horizon.
Have a great weekend,
ChrisJ (96568) 2014-02-07 12:07
I like the graphism of the dark volcanic rocks against the lighter blue grey sky. Good sharpness and well framed and composed. Nice motion blur of the moving waves. The minimalist colors work well. Hoping to be more active on TE in the future.

Hi Craig -
Love this one! Maybe because it looks more like an cold place not charming Hawaii... Great blue tonality made it so unique and stunning. Excellent execution. TFS!
Have a nice weekend!

This is a masterpiece of slow photography by seaside and gives a great result everytime,if you have a tripod, rocks, waves and time in your hand.I love this one.Something new from you.Keep sharing.TFS.

You're capturing well this beach scape by a good angle and excellent tone, so it's impressive to see the another seashore in Hawaii to which a tourist does not come. It's also impressive in rocks, sea layers and the wave's effect which rolls in to the seashore by slow shutter.
jcpix (13550) 2014-02-09 20:06
When I saw this in the thumbnail size I figured it was one from your Iceland trip...but whoa, couldn't be further from it! :) A happy little surprise you have yourself here, almost the complete opposite of what I would expect from Hawaii in regards to the colors...and that's what I like the most about this, out of the traditional warm tropical tones that we associate with this location. No palm trees either, I wonder how many other people you've fooled with this?? :)
There's another illusion here too, I could swear the horizon is off balance...but I'll be darned, it lines up just right! Love the long exposure to create the hazy looking water, and the heavy contrast in the foreground rock works well in this instance against the pastel'sh (yeah, that's a made up word) blues. Thanks for the brain teaser with this one, it really made me examine it even closer. When she gets a chance to see it for herself, I'm sure Lisa will love it! Enjoy the new week. Take it easy.
Cheers from Arid-zona,

Aww feeling the lurve in the room here. Thanks so much and yep you guessed it: this is right up my alley and I wish it was in my Gallery. Love the misted up water and those soft blue tones. I bet T loved this place too and what a great way to take a break from Cuba, couldn't think of 2 more opposite places, even if they have their own beautiful qualities. The blackened rocks really contrast well against the soft pastel tones and I love that hint of pink in the sky. Thanks for thinking of me, I'm so chuffed with this.
Cheers, I hope you two aren't working too hard
