I've been getting a few comments from TE members saying that while they've enjoyed my photos from Havana, most of them are of the architecture upclose.
So I thought I'd post a photo or two of the streets of Havana pulled back a bit, actually way back.
This photo was taken from the famous Malecon, which is the walkway along the Ocean's edge. We're looking down the street that we would walk everyday heading back into downtown Havana.
If you look closely, you can see the Capital Building and it dome way in the middle bg. It looks kind of funny because there's scaffolding around it for repairs.
Speaking of scaffolding, the building on the left it totally covered by it. Can you guess why?
I learned that the plan for that long building is to one day turn it into a Hotel. If the plans DO go through, it'll be in a wonderful location by the water.
The building is totally covered by scaffolding to secure it, to ensure it doesn't fall down! Thats how poor the condition is.
Hope you like this scene

You have captured an interesting set of eclectic architecture here in various states of repair. I like the soft light and muted tones.

You have a wonderful series of pictures from Cuba. Actually I saw Cuba's coastline in the far distance when I was on the cruise ship.
About bugs/flies/mosquitos in Yellowstone...No, not at all. Even in summer, the morning temperature is very low. The bugs can not be survived. You more likely carry a bear spray than a bugs spray.

a very spectacular view with amazing architectural details, the composition is superb, beautiful lights and colours. Great shot,

From what you say in your interesting note, it sounds as though the scaffolding on the left has been there for quite a long time and might well be there for many years to come without any actual structural building work taking place!
Sorry I've missed so many of your shots - been a bit tied up with other things - but I'll do my best to get back to them.
This is a lovely "wider view" shot with your usual stunning details and sharpness, a picture which we can study at length and make lots of interesting observations. The capital building looks splendid but perhaps at close quarters it is a little derelict too? The scaffolding on the left looks a bit grim and that modern block on the right behind the older building is just plain ugly. Interesting to view the street itself too - I see what looks like a rickshaw and one or two old American cars, but there's a fairly new VW there too. In fact I heard in the news a few weeks ago that Cuba somehow was soon to be importing new cars - I wonder if that will put an end to these big old American gas guzzlers? But I suppose that all depends on whether people will actually be able to afford to buy new imported cars.
A wonderful scene!

I specially enjoyd the view ot the Dome in the centered background!

Very attractive open space scene. Interesting mix of architecture there, hope the new renewed building will bring back some more charm of the old Havana.

glad you have posted a wider view of this fascinating place. It does look amazing and you get a great idea of the space and obvious work needed to restore some of the architectural gems here. Looks less busy than I imagined it would but that may be just the time of the day. Compelling image.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Well that's definitely a first, I've never heard a photographer mention that MORE scaffolding is needed!? :) Something that I'm sure annoys all of us from behind the lens, especially when you've traveled so far, only to have your plans foiled by construction.
I've loved all of your pictures so far, I could forever enjoy the close up detailing and textures you've presented. That being said, this certainly opens up the mind to a different idea about the city.
You have kind of a Washington D.C. type of perspective going on here, that long road leading towards the capitol dome off in the distance. Surprising to see so little activity too, where is everyone..was there a football match going on when you took this??
Love the soft sunlight, gently highlighting portions of the buildings. So what's the over/under on how long that scaffolding and construction plans will be in flux? A different take on Havana, I like it! Enjoy the weekend.
Cheers from the desert,

So you are still in Cuba, virtually of corse.
Nice to see a greater shot of Havanna for once. I wonder though if I would have enough faith to stay in that half finished hotel, if ever it will be completed. If it has to be supported not to crumble down already ...
have a great weekend

nice the panoramic view of the scene with the lot of scaffolds to support the building before it collapse. The opposite old corner building completes perfect teh whole scenery.

great wide format and superb perspective!
So,more scaffolding needed?I still hope they will be able to preserve Havana´s unique architecture from complete dilapidation.
Excellently composed scene with really lovely and moody light!
Have a nice weekend

Hi Craig, Interesting wide view of the street leading to the capital Building, we can see also monument and maybe fountain. big empty space. The houses on the right look quite well and new. Fantastic sharpness.

Indeed you have taken few steps back here. I think I would like to see a view from this yellow high building. The dom in the very centre makes a nice featur to focus on. This is a nice documentary which allows us to imagine the daily life in Havana.
Very well done!

Seems they are rebuilding something there, in background! Just hope they don't transform all the old buildings into hotels. A good view of the city, still with the old cars and architecture. Havana must be a fantastic city!
