Yosemite Valley's El Capitan is one of earth's highest monoliths at 900 meters. Composed almost entirely of granite emplaced about 100 million years ago. Then carved by glacial action like most of Yosemite Valley, about one million years ago.
In 1851 the Mariposa Battalion pursuing Native Americans to punish them for rading John Savage's trading post 10 miles west of the Valley, named the monolith "El Capitan". Which is a loose Spanish translation for the Native American name "To-tock-ah-noo-lah", meaning "rock chief".

El Capitan presented in a rather mysterious way.
From the dark forest, the big monolith is slowly becoming visible after been hidden by the morning fog.
Excellent framing by the trees.
Best regards, Paul

How are you? I have read about the catastrophic drought in California.
Thanks for so informative note, good presentation of the Rock Chief, the misty weather gave you an opportunity to make so interesting composition.

The mist is magical in this scene, and makes the whole thing look like something from legends. A brilliant upwards view too, emphasizing the height really well, and giving a great sense of being in this forest.
Thanks as always

This is a lovely view of this famous monolith through the mist and trees. The golden light on the rock face makes it particularly lovely.
Very well done.
