Not far from the beach in the Algarve resort of Praia da Luz, we found this little gift shop. A lot of the stuff for sale was usual "touristy" souvenirs but at the back of the shop I was impressed by this attractive locally crafted and very brightly glazed pottery which comprised plates, dishes, cups, vases, jugs and oil and vinegar bottles.
It was quite dim in the shop so this was shot at ISO 2000 and just using available light.

Indeed, wonderful colours that you were able to masterfully capture. The wooden shelves and walls create the perfect background for the wonderfully decorated pottery. Also a good idea to avoid a wide aperture to achieve a good DOF.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi John, Great light management even though with high ISO and taken in a very low light situation and I do not see too much noise. Nice POV and composition. It is very nice that you included the blue pots in the frame, they enhance the colour contrast. Best regards

Hi John, Stunning colours in these difficult light conditions. so many different pieces of pottery with the same pattern, bowls, jugs, plates, ashtrays. But I suppose you were happy to make some photos but you didn't go away with the pottery. I like this display but I wouldn't be tempted to buy it.
Warm regrads Malgo

Wow! This is very colourful, and a good `wakeup`picture.I love the blue and red pottery which stand out well against the teak shelves.I bet you couldn`t resist buying just a little dish or vase! I couln`t resist myself!

always nice to see a new photo from you!
This one should come with a warning lable to wear sunglasses during viewing :)
wow those colors pop and sizzle!
Personally i hardly ever come home with any of these items, i find them to be a money grab, so i stay away.
As for photography though, you may have just changed my mind about them. This looks pretty darn cool indeed!
Your side profile pov works well too.
Nice shot with the high ISO

So you found the kings treasure behind the tourist trap! Nicely done, it presents such strong bold colors, and the glaze on the pieces reflects the light very nicely. Excellent clear shot under tough light conditions.
I do know what you mean about the typical tourist items too, as I walk into shops in Dublin, i get so tired is seeing sheep in snow globes :)
All the best

once again I am impressed with the ability of the Canon to cope with clarity at a high ISO. This has amazing detailing and is a real riot of colours. A real maze of shapes, patterns and shiny textured surfaces. It works beautifully. Well done - not sure my Sony would be as good at this level.
Enjoy the weekend - B.

There's no lack of colours in this photo, especially no lack of red. Some of these pots and jugs would probably make fine souvenirs, although I would need a closer look to know whether I liked them enough to buy any. Considering the conditions you describe the quality of the shot is impressive.

colori molto vivaci e molto saturi, colpiscono immediatamente l'attenzione.
Belli i dettagli, i 2000 iso non sembrano aver tolto qualità alla foto.

Wow, had you not mentioned it in your note, I would have never guessed this to have been taken with such a high ISO...this looks superb!
I really like how you've put this together, I would venture to guess that most people would take a shot like this with a straight on approach, but this angled position offers up a lot more dimension. You've wisely chosen to include the blue pottery as an accent and contrast with the majority red, a key element here I believe.
I'm impressed with the white balance too, the tones look natural, and that's always tricky under indoor lighting. Crisp and clean yet again, the detail and textures shine through. Thanks for providing us a peek inside the local shop. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
Cheers from overseas,

Your camera performs very well in the low light and your hand is clearly very steady. The bright and colourful pottery looks spectacular grouped together on the shelves. A great idea for a photo and one that I would not have thought of. Very well done - I like it a lot (but not on my table!).
Best wishes, Ann

now that is impressive, all those bright saturated colours without any sign of noise anywhere that I can see.
The proportion of red to blue with just a touch of yellow is credit to your compositional skills, giving as it does a really attractive and well balanced image.
Best regards Les.

that one is simply eye catching. the beauty of all those pottery, the bright reds, blacks, blues, wood tones, enamel glaze... that's definitely a view one would like to have from a potters store. and so charming as well, as they all look so little like the toy dishes in a dollhouse.
